Do you know if Gaim 2 beta works with GTK+ 2.8.x? I had problems connecting with Gaim 1.5.0 and GTK+ 2.8.18 and the bug report about this specific issue hasn't been updated since June.

I'm using libgtk2.0-0 (GTK+) 2.8.20 (0ubuntu1) and I have no problems at all with gaim 2 beta (1:1.9.99.is.2.0.0+beta3-1ubuntu1 to be, ahem, exact). If you mean Windows, they should include a compatible GTK+ with the installer package.

I'm on Windows and I have GTK+ 2.8.18 installed from when I installed GIMP 2.2. Previously, I had GTK+ 2.8.9 installed and it would not work with either Gaim 1.5.0 or 2.0.0 beta. There was a bugzilla entry about GTK+ 2.8.x and Gaim not working together, but the entry hasn't been updated since June and I wasn't sure if the bug was fixed in 2.8.18. I plan on using Portable Gaim until the GTK bug gets fixed, just wondering if anyone knew if it has so I can check out Gaim 2 beta.

Sure this looks hard but it really only takes five mins and you'll have a working gaim 2/GIMP 2.2 combo. For now I just installed gaim 2 beta 3 with the GTK it included. That gave me these files, which I copied:
\program files\common files\gtk\2.0\* \program files\gaim\*
\program files\common files\gtk\2.0\bin\libg*.dll -> \program files\gaim\libg*.dll
\program files\common files\gtk\2.0\bin\libpango*.dll -> \program files\gaim\libpango*.dll
Basically just copy the whole directory structure (bin,lib,etc,share) under 2.0 into the gaim directory and bin\libg* and bin\libpango* dlls into the gaim directory. That seemed to do it for me. Install the GTK+ 2.8.18 package for GIMP (it appears like it's uninstalling the old gtk, and it does, but that's fine since we copied it into the gaim dir anyway). I can now run GIMP 2.2 and gaim 2 beta 3 concurrently.
Sorry. I hope I'm not hijacking this thread.![]()
