what vcore voltage do i go by? p4 2.6c

intel says not to exceed 1.525 vcore volts for the p4 2.6c. however, when i turn on my cpu-z utility or any other utility while in windows, it says that my vcore voltage is at 1.376. my bios vcore voltage was set to 1.555. which voltage should i base my overclocking off of? and how high can i set the voltage in the bios without causing damage to the cpu? thx newbie

Did you try Asus PC Probe? does it also say 1.376V? IF so that is unusually low. However, the lower the voltage the better it is for your cpu (however I am not sure if too low is bad as in your case).

If your cpu is stable @ 3.1 at this low voltage then that's amazing. I have Abit IS7 and when I set to 1.575 Vcore in the BIOS, software reads 1.49-1.52 so undervolting is normal.

I would say a safe voltage rating for 2.6C is 1.65V (actual not what the BIOS says)

Can you provide a link from Intel stating that? Most of us overclockers run our P4C's no higher than 1.8v

And I feel bad for my 1.54v




(1.54v as in MB monitor and HW Doc, NOT the Abit IC7 BIOS which is set to 1.575v . . . anyway getting ~3.4ghz outta my 2.80c)

THX FOR THE INPUT. PC PROBE SAYS THE SAME THING. SO YOU THINK I'M OK TO SET VCORE TO 1.52 ACTUAL, WHICH WILL PROBABLY BE 1.8 VCORE IN BIOS. THAT WILL PROBABLY MAKE ME CAPABLE OF 3.4-3.5 STABLE OVERCLOCK.

You can always try setting it higher but often times the voltage might adjust and the gap could start to close in. Start raising it slowly and check.

Download Sisoftware Sandra 2004 and it also helps to show Vcore as well as Motheboard Monitor 5.

Let me know if setting it higher aided better overclocking since usually anything above actual 1.65 does not.

well, something fried
as the voltage in the bios goes up, the actual is starting to go down. now, the actual will not even go past 1.2volts. do you think it's the motherboard or the power supply?

what kind of power supply do you have?

The experience you are having with your CPU voltage is something I have not encountered before especially to the degree that you describe. What happens when you set the voltage to default does it increase from 1.2 to a higher value?

Anything is possible it can be the motherboard, the power supply or the sensor is reading the information incorrectly. Did you update to the latest possible BIOS for your motherboard?

I HAVE AN ENERMAX 465 WATT. cONTACTED ASUS, AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS A FAILED MOTHERBOARD--BAD VOLTAGE REGULATORS. I WILL BE UP AND RUNNING IN A WEEK AT 3.6GHZ 1100FSB. HOPEFULLY
