What up with these 6800 vanilla 3dmark scores

That's what, 40% faster than the average 9800pro? If that's bone stock, I'd say that's pretty good. I guess 40% faster than the fastest card in the world of a few months ago isn't "that fast" to some people, but for most it's very fast, especially for the $$$. What did you pay for your 9800 pro again apoppin? LOL please don't tell me I don't care. <walks away laughing>

. . . anyway, $223, when the 6800GT was unavailable - and my 9800XT gets ~6600 in 3DMark'03; the 6800 ia ~ 25% faster in this test

where'd you come up with your 40% BS "guess" figure? . . . on the 'low-end', eVGA says the 6800 is at least a full +12% faster than the 9800xt.

why?
the OP asked about his score - it seems he was disappointed - my reply was that it is WELL in-line with similar systems with 6800 gpu.
The 6800 is a FINE videocard . . . the BEST bang for buck at ~$300 . . . but please don't OVER estimate it's performance.
Apoppin here are some numbers for you to crunch

3dMark03 (1280x1024 4XAA): 5325
3dMark01: 21,213
Aquamark: 59,328
Doom3 timedemo1 1024 High: 84.5fps
Doom3 timedemo1 1280 High: 70.2fps
Doom3 timedemo1 1600 High: 56.1fps
Halo (1024 everything on): 88.55fps
Halo (1280 everything on): 65.39fps
Halo (1600 everything on): 49.34fps
Those scores are from a 6800 (vanilla) Chaintech [2.2ghz cpu]
I am guessing your score of 6600 is max out overclock because I have never seen a 9800 model score that high otherwise. Well my card in the scores above is running 375/880 and isn't even close to pinned (it can go 20mhz higher on both core/memory).
my card ran me $286 shipped over a month ago.
Your card isn't even in the same zip code. My 1600 scores = your 1024 scores

NO one in their right mind is gonna argue that the 6800 is not noticeably/significantly faster than the 9800 . . . certainly not me . .. NOwhere and NEVER in my posts have i said this . . . i have CONSISTENTLY recommended the 6800standard as the best bang-4-buck ~$300.
(and i STILL recommend the 9800pro as the best card under $200)
Where do you see i went wrong? i call it as i see it.
my 9800 is an XT and is not O/C'd (except by Overdrive) . . . i also got it over TWO months ago when the 6800GT was UNavailable (the card i was planning to get).

Just say "those scores are about right", and end it at that. Get it? See how easy it is not to be an asshat? And actually, the more I look at benchmarks, I'd say the 6800 isn't 40% faster than the 9800xt, it's more like 50% faster....LOL!!!!!
