What unnecessary spending should the gov cut?

I was wondering what you guys thought is unnecessary money that the government is spending that could be better used else where. I am currently working on a paper for an english class and I would like to see the educational budget raised for the specific purpose of reducing the cost of secondary education for the students, however where does the general consensus stand for where this increase in the budget should come from? Please refrain from anwsering with the war. That isn't a possibility anymore, however I suppose the military budget would be acceptable. SO what do you think???

National Endowment for the Arts

Well, I don't know how much an enterprise license for exchange server costs, but I bet it's not cheap. We have one here, and we're not even allowed to run exchange/outlook. So, that'd be one thing I'd cut.

- kill the war on drugs
- more creative sentencing and reducing the number of people in prison
- airline "security" workers should never have gone on the federal payroll

Lots more...but all I can think of off the top of my head

Not just old people. My brother is 40 and just got a heart valve replaced thanks to Medi-Cal. He's been in the hospital for three weeks now. I don't think he has a dime to his name to begin with.
Granted, he's a heroin addict and probably better off dead, but he would certainly be so if it wasn't for the Medicaid program.

Also, my dad had a double bypass operation in December of which a significant amount was paid by Medicare. I don't think that these programs should be eliminated so much as reformed.

Social Security and SS disbility are a joke. Those who *NEED* it are probably on welfare anyway and everyone else is supposed to be supplementing it with their own income/nest egg to begin with. That's what most people don't understand; it's not a REPLACEMENT for income, it's a supplement.

yeah amen to that. Just a few years ago could have said well use the surplus, and therefore nothign would have to be cut. Now thats not even close to the case. Another thing that bothers me is what do you think the college president or who is in charge of everything should be payed salary wise? I think i read that here at pdue he makes like 450,000+ a year, and dont hold me to this but i think it was michigan state pays theirs 600,000+. doesnt this seem a bit much??? Maybe its just me, but damn that could have funded my entire education X 4

I hate pretty much any sort of wealth reallocation program. National Endowment for the Arts is just a waste of money.

How about pulling the amazing amounts of money we give retired govt. officials.

Wellfare
Student Aid
NEA
Social Security
SEC needs to be gutted
EEOC
OSHA

Basically everything except the most basic regulatory agencies, public utilities, the highway system, the Police/Fire/Rescue and the Military.

Exactly my point. Why should the government take money from my pocket to fund these procedures? I'm sorry for your family, but it's not my problem.
