I dropped my Nexus 7 2013 recently and broke the screen. After reading a few recommendations on here about the Nvidia Shield K1 I ordered one yesterday. I've been without a tablet for a few weeks now and am realizing how many little things I use it for!

I use it for the typical stuff like Netflix, web browsing, games, etc. But I also used it as a big, beautiful dash on my motorcycle. I'd run Ulysse Speedometer to give me speed, direction, and distance traveled without having to look so far down at my gauge cluster. I also used it to control my helmet mounted GoPro with a live feed of what I'm filming, sometimes even using it as a rearview/chase camera.

So what about you guys? What relatively unique applications do you use your devices for?

Mine is an ssh server into my home network.

Old s4 is a high resolution wifi camera, thru port forwarding I can view my dogs and house when I am at work.

I actually have several old Android tablets and phones that I can cover my whole house but have been too lazy

I use a cheap android phone as a TV using the FIOS mobile app. Turns out it gives me live TV of stations I don't even subscribe to, including FXX, so I can just let The Simpsons drone on while I work.

I use an old HTC Surround as my alarm clock. I don't have any other old devices laying around, I tend to sell or give them to family/friends.

I use my old Motorola Photon as an alarm clock. Nothing beats having multiple, easily set alarms and never having to change the time for daylight savings. The built-in kickstand, alarm clock mode of the Photon is an obvious bonus.

I use mine to run the Xfinity TV Go app to watch TV using my parents Comcast account after I cut cable services at my place. I cast it to my TV.

I apologize for being a cheapass.

Not exactly unconventional but I have 2 Nexus 7 2012's that were so lightly used they still haven't slowed down so I stuck them to the back of my sisters car seats for my nephews. They can now watch videos and no longer annoy my sister quite as much.

I use my old Galaxy S3 in my Pip-Boy, it only comes out when it needs a recharge.

I also use a Nexus 7 2013 as a kitchen aid. It tracks my recipes, shopping lists etc, makes it all a bit more convenient really. Also comes in handy for Formula 1 Live Timing as my Windows tablet can only get the website version (no available app) which is too limited.

It seems the FIOS apps only check to see you're on a FIOS connection -- not the subscription level.
