what types of speed should i expect from my new dsl connection?

i recently got 1.5mb/128kb dsl connection from verizon online. i connect via a network using a router (2 computers are connected).
the highest speeds i can get are usually 90kbs and using download accelerator sometimes 130kbs.


is this the speed i should expect? i realise dsl varies.


of corse these are download speeds, downloading normal files from many different servers.
it does seem that many sites are capped at 60kbs
 
That sounds reasonable. The theoretical max of your DSL is 1500 kb / 8 = 187.5 kB/s. Assuming about 20% overhead, that works out to 150 kB/s. Of course, this is assuming a server on the other end with excess bandwidth, and that you're close enough to the telco to get full bandwidth on the DSL. Taking everything into account, your speeds look ok.
 
When a DSL provider states a connection speed (bandwidth), it means what they pump at their side of the connection.

With the typical loses of the Tel. lines what you got on your side, is what a good DSL connection of your class gets.
 
That's about what I was getting with Verizon. Then I got lucky and Optimum came to town. Now, 600KB/s routine. Boo-ya!!
