Just wondering what you all believe would be ideal. As to say, what would not bottle neck the system to producting low gaming fps.

What would be the absolute minimum (acceptable) and "should-be" required system?

I've recently had this happen to me with a ati 9800aiw pro running on a p3 1ghz system. I don't want to make the same mistake twice.

Pixle.

Well, at the moment, these cards are (at least in some games, such as UT2K4) CPU-limited at essentially any settings. I would say that for 'optimum' performance, you need at least a P4 3.0C (or an A64 3000+, or AthlonXP 3200+). However, anything above 2.0Ghz or so (or an AXP 2000+) should be OK. You may be CPU-limited in some cases, but you'll still be able to crank up the resolution and AA/AF on just about any game to ridiculous levels without seeing any performance hit. You're just not going to get preposterously high benchmarking numbers.

I recently put together a system with an eye to the future, and I used a Athlon 64 3200+ with an ASUS motherboard (on-board RAID). Those two components set me back around $300, which is reasonable (and the machine screams). I would go with any Athlon 64 CPU, personally.

I agree. Something over 2.0ghz is ideal, just so the card isn't being held back by the cpu or other parts. Also, 1gb of ram for most of these new games is almost a necessity.
