What type of switch should be used for a hard drive?

I've seen these IDE selectors that allow you to only power up the drives that you want powered to do multi booting and i was thinking i could probably make one myself for much less $$ and also save some space. however, i'm not sure what type of switch to use. will any basic radioshack switch work or do have to have a specific amperage and/or voltage. what would be even better is a guide that would help me do this (if there is one). thanx in advance

i don't have any guides that i know of, but basically you'd just be switching 5v and 12v lines and maybe a ground or two...it's the same type of voltage you switch when you make a fanbus controller (of which i've made several)

so in answer to your question, yes, any regular DC switch from radio shack would do you just fine

ok that's cool to know. would i need anything other than the switches?

The one I use is Romtec Trios. Works great. Does everything it promises to do. You can buy them for $40 retail and about half that price with some coupons and sales.
