What Type of Ram? HyperX/ValueRam etc?

I posted not too long ago about whether or not to get PC3200 or PC2700 Ram. With everyone's advice (and my original assumption) I have decided to go with PC3200.

So the question now is, what should I get? My system is used primarily for web development, some video editing (nothing extreme), and general office tasks. No gaming is done on this system so no worries there.

Outpost has Kingston HyperX 512M PC3200 for a darn good deal. My thought was to purchase 2 sticks to run the 1G at 333mhz speeds (seeing as my CPU is a 333FSB) but I have also noticed that HyperX is always noted as gaming ram. Is there any reason (other than its easier to overclock?) that makes this ram that much better? Should I be looking at more value oriented ram like Corsair ValueRam?

Thanks!

If not OCing, just get value CL2.5 RAM. This holds true for any scenario, even gaming--timings mean jack diddly sh!t at stock speeds.

Well right now the reason I was aiming towards the the HyperX is it seems to be the best value right now, $150 for 1G or $130 for 2 512 sticks if I have a friend purchase the stick for me so we can get the 2 rebates.

I'm wondering the same thing myself. Is overclocking the only reason to go with performance grade RAM like HyperX?

go checkout the pqi ram deals at newegg on till christmas... should end up a little cheaper than the kingston deal. also i think its 1 stick per household so have a friend order one if you go with the kingston or else no 2nd rebate...

OCZ is a pretty reputable brand. If the rebate goes through, this is a good deal. Unfortunately, many people have had bad experiences with the rebates that they've submitted on items bought from Outpost during the past few months. Even if the rebate doesn't go through, I guess $150 for 1 gig of PC3200 isn't a bad price, so the risk on an unfulfilled rebate isn't a big one.

Yeah, decided not to go with it. The rebates at Frys/Outpost right now are a bit too sketchy for my liking. Gonna hope Newegg has a good deal. They have Mushkin for around $135 right now.

I would just get generic value RAM
rarely do I ever buy anything but generic value RAM, and rarely do I have problems.
