I am confused in that there are sooooooo many different types of oats out there.

I need something that is low glycemic yet healthy at the same time.

What to look for?

I love oats.

Everyday I eat a half bowl of Quaker Oats. Add 1 Tbsp of honey, a few dashes of ground cinnamon and a handful of raisins. I might add blueberries as well.

Quaker Oats is made from 100% whole wheat oats. Plus, it cooks really fast and taste great. Haven't tried steel cut oats.

Stay away from those oat packets like maple brown sugar, or cinnamon apple. IMO, they have too much added sugar.

Steel cut/old fashion oats. Not that instant shit you make in a packet.

I've been eating 'overnight oats' for the past month or two - they're so addicting and easy.

Use old fashion oats - not instant.

I play around with the recipe a bit as far as ingredients go. My favorite is probably oats + milk + raisins + coconut + walnuts + cinnamon. Sometimes I'll add sliced strawberry or banana in the morning. The options are endless.

So I should buy rolled oats then?

I use to love eating oats with condensed milk (so damn nice!) but that was when I was young and in shape.

Eating oats with low fat milk tastes like crap! OH well, so be it.

Takes awhile but its worth it.
I usually do a water\milk mix when slow cooking.
When done, a few butter shavings and some honey. Maybe some craisins

I buy the 1 minute oats. I don't really have a brand preference, but have been eating Millville Brand the past few weeks (Aldi)...I also buy Kroger brand.

On my diet, I just do 1/2 cup of oats + 1 cup of water. I add 2 tablespoons of creamy Jif peanut butter, and drink a cup of black coffee with it. That's a 390 calorie breakfast with whole grain and protein to hold me until lunch. Occasionally, I'll replace the peanut butter with a banana....or add the banana to my breakfast if it's a running day.

I don't add sugar or cinnamon, but you can if you want. I'm just trying to cut a lot of extra junk out of my diet until I cut weight right now. (down 12 lbs in 3 weeks)

How the oats are cut makes little difference, despite what people say: http://www.prevention.com/content/whats-healthier-steel-cut-oats-or-rolled-oats

There just isn't enough difference to make a big deal about it. Mares eat 'em, Does eat 'em...and you know little lambs don't.

I stock up large roll oats from bulk food store whenever they're on sale.

a few scopes in the travel mud add hot water, by the time I reach office they're done.

10yrs ago I add 1 cream 1 sugar
5yrs ago 1 cream no sugar
now just water and oat.

I like oats... with liquid splenda or neotame and flavor extracts such as banana extract.

This kind.

Don't bother trying to microwave it. It's a disaster. Believe me, I've tried it every which way, but it just takes too long and inevitably ends in it boiling over. Takes 20 minutes to cook in a pot on the stove. I usually mix in some of these at the 18 minute mark.

Instant oats and all the other Quaker stuff is fairly heavily processed. They cook the shit out of it with steam then press it flat and dry it out. Sometimes called "rolled" oats, but pretty much anything you can cook in no time has already been cooked.

If you want something faster but still healthy, Bob's Red Mill makes some good Muesli

Steel. Any other oat does something to my insulin levels, leaving me sweaty, shaky and dizzy.
