the 3500+ retail is out of stock on newegg, im buying custom heatsink/fan so if the only thing the retail set has is the heatsink/fan then i'd be ok just getting the cpu, but i was wanting to get the winchester and i cant seem to determine what core this is, could someone please advise? thanks

and am i correct in saying that i wouldnt necessarily need the retail 3500+

The CPU you've linked to is a Winchester core. The Winchesters are AMD's 90nm line.

Because they couldn't push their new technology that far in performance just yet?
