what TV tuner card?

I have a tv2000, that I am just not happy with.

I want a card with one with mpeg encoding built in.
Any suggestions?

Just need a basic card with hardware encoding. Video quality not that critical.

Happuage WinTV PVR 250, you can either get the retail version, or one of the stripped down(no OEM software) "Roslyn" versions that are intended to be used with a PVR Suite(Sage TV, Beyond TV, etc).

The ATI TV Wonder Pro is a pretty good card, but it's expensive (about $100 retail).

Get a Hauppauge card, I've heard lots of good things about them.

I have an ATI TV Wonder Pro and I don't really like it that much. If you're interested, I'm willing to part with it AND the remote for $50. It needs a decent system to run well, and it liked Radeons more than gf4 on my previous athlon system.

I agree on the hauppuage cards, the quality is very good for realtime. They are great for straight to DVD captures. The only thing is that you must use the built in codecs on the card so no AVIs or uncompressed video. They also have trouble using capture software besides hauppauge's own.

Quick question... a friend just gave me his TV Wonder VE, how is this different from any other ATI TV tuners besides not coming with a remote. I have that and a 7000 and haven't gotten them to play nice yet, TV crashes every time I open it. I've been a all-in-wonder owner for years, so this doesn't come as a suprise. 🙁

i have the tv2000 deluxe and its been great for me. What do u mean by mpeg encoding? You can record TV in mpeg, mpeg2, vcd, dvd, avi, etc.

I loked at the info for the PVR250. Seems nice.
Quite a lot more expensive than the TV2000 i'm using, but I realy think I need hardware encoding.

Maybe you knw the answer to these:? (no info online)

Does it do hardware encoding of MPEG1's also?
Can you reduce the qualitry of mpeg1/mpeg2 to make smaller mpegs if quality isn't vital?
(I just use it as PVR, so low res is good for me to save disk space.)

TV Wonder VE is Mono sound.

I've been using the Leadtek Winfast 2000 TV tuner card for a little over a year now and love it. I'm sure there are other, more expensive cards out there with more features, but this one does exactly what I need (record TV to MPEG) and it's hard to beat $45-50 shipped.

No Svideo is no big deal, but the mono kills me.

I personally own ATI TV wonder and it sucks.
I bought it from bestbuy while ago because they had good deal including rebate.
Quailty wise, I hate it.
Planning to buy new replacement.
I am thinking Leadtek Winfast 2000 TV .

I've been thinking of upgradeing my 7 year old Hauppauge WinTV Stereo to the latest Digital Card, mainly Hauppauge's 250 BUT will it be able to channel through my Leadtek Winfast PVR software suite (My current card can't)? Or should I get the Winfast TV Card?

I've owned the ATI TV wonder too, and I ended up selling it in a month because I disliked it so much.
Crap drivers, and crappy quality...
I'd get the leadtek or the hauppage.
leadtek if you're on a budget, hauppage if you have extra cash to spare

Um, the PVR 250 is one of the most widely supported cards there is. It works excelent with Sage TV 2.0, Beyond TV and GB-PVR and probably a lot others.
