What toy should I treat myself with?

I came into an unexpected inheritance as my grandmother passed away a few months ago, and my mom gave me 1/3 of the inheritance which I wasn't expecting.

I want to treat myself to something and need some suggestions that I might not have already thought of.

My computers are all reasonably up to date and don't need upgrading,
I don't need a car as I already have a nice ride,
My wife is a babe (I will be buying her a new car), and the blow is plentiful.

Thoughts?

This.

...I'm calling shens.

Meh ... you don't have to believe, but it does happen. My grandmothers estate was ~$750,000, split between my mother and my aunt. My mother gave me 1/3, my sister 1/3 and kept one 1/3.

"Just 6 figures."

Has the thought of not actually spending it right at this precise moment ever occurred to you?

I'm not looking to spend all of it, but I have zero debt, my retirement is pretty much looked after, and this came right out of the blue and I thought a treat would be nice.

save towards down-payment for a place?

I already own a home, a rental property and a resort condo. I'm over 50 and have been reasonably successful, that's why it is hard to find a new toy.

Then, I don't know. Treat you and your wife to a nice meal out at a good restaurant? Take a weekend away at some random hotel/resort/someplace sunny? Massage? Renovate your house? Get a good start on some kind of investment? Surely there's something you can think of. Just because you have no debt and good savings doesn't mean it's impossible to have more. If nothing else, if you put this into your retirement then it would just mean you could retire a few years early.

I have an answer you asked for and one you didn't.

I know you mentioned that you don't need a car, but I'd still recommend checking out the Ariel Atom. I imagine that'd be pretty fun if you already have a daily driver. However, it isn't "stock" road legal (in the States you'd probably have to register it as a kit car), so I'm not sure if that's an option up north.

My other suggestion is put the money in a rainy day fund for your mother. Or maybe save it up for a lavish (50th? 75th?) birthday party or special event. Something along those lines.

Or, if you want to spread the love pay Anandtech to take down those gawdawful ibuypower ads on the main page. I know it's been discussed, but I'm considering installing an ad blocker just so I don't have to look at it.

Or, focusing on you, forget about getting a toy and go on a nice trip. Supposedly people gain more happiness from experiences than from possessions (at least, once you have the necessities covered).

Do you still work? Can you take a few months to travel? I know that's what I'd be doing. For $10k - $20K you could hit the road for a few months and get the fuck out of Canada! :D
