Just revert back to 2.2.1. 3.x.x is absolute crap - beyond being bloatware, it randomly throttles my downloads to 10KB/s >:|

Edit : Here ya go

I downloaded µTorrent v2.2.1 Build 25302

is it ok? or shall I stick to 2.2.1 only ?

I noticed that the µTorrent v2.2.1 Build 25302 was released 2 months later

qBittorrent. It's libre software, and you can trust it not to include bundled search bars, or other nonsense. There's no conflict of interest since they aren't a corporation whose goal it is to make a profit. They're just writing a good torrent client.

Just uncheck the boxes when it asks you to install crap, and they don't get installed. I like uTorrent because of uTorrent remote. But to each their own. I might try qBittorrent just for curiosity's sake :)

I meant during installation

im in windows, using 12mb at the moment with utorrent.

Its super light weight and has worked exactly the way ive wanted for years. Just about any software you install comes bundled with some crap, but honestly how hard is it to just uncheck or decline any offers they try to sell you. Is that really a reason to stop using a program?

Yes. It's shady, and I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to use software. uTorrent is proprietary software, made by a company who's trying to make money. They may decide to slip something worse than crappy toolbars into the installer. You won't know because you can't look at the code. To put it another way, there's no reason /not/ to use qBittorrent. It does everything uTorrent does, and they do everything above board. If you don't trust them, you can verify the code yourself. Nothing is hidden.

so your saying dont trust any program that is being made by people who are trying to make money off of it? Its pretty obvious what theyre doing, nothing shady about it. If your one of the few people that is dumb enough to not uncheck boxes or hit decline, you deserve every toolbar, and weather widget that is installed on your old ass version of internet explorer.

I'm saying don't trust companies who bundle toolbars, and other garbage to make money. I patronize companies that ask for voluntary donations, or outright sales, not ones who prey on the careless or stupid. It's shady, and dishonest. Using proprietary software when there's an equal or better libre version available is asinine, and you deserve whatever garbage you get stuck with. You're a single change of TOS away from getting reamed, and you won't know it until it happens.

I agree it's shady in general, but in uTorrent's defense, they don't make it too hard to understand what they're doing. I've seen software which puts tiny print on the bottom of the toolbar install window that says something that makes unchecking the box an indication of you wanting the crap software installed. That is extremely tactless and shady, and would instantly cause me to uninstall their software and blacklist it forever.

My experience is that all toolbarware eventually gets to that point. At first they just bundle the tool bars. They appeal to their loyal base that they need the money, and are very up front about what they are doing, why, and how to decide if you want those toolbars or not. They want you to decide to install the toolbars becuase you want to support their software. Some people must actually WANT toolbars, right?

But that makes them almost no money, and they decided to add those toolbars because they really needed some money to keep the project going. So, they decide that they are still going to have clear messages telling you what is being installed, but not be so obvious about the fact that you can install the software with out it. They go though a few iterations of this, each getting a little less obvious about how to not install the toolbars and install the software.

That makes them a little more money, but still not enough. Having gotten use to the idea that toolbars, and not their software, are what makes them money, they convince themselves that they are not making enough money because their ungrateful users are cheating by not installing the toolbars. This leads them to getting really sneaky on how to get those toolbars installed, that is their real business afterall, getting toolbars installed. At this point the software has become nothing more then bait to get toolbars installed.

I just want to point out for those using Qbittorent that updates are inevitable. It keeps harassing you to update all the time and new versions come out almost weekly. There is no option to disable update check even after many requests.

This should do it, but software updates are good. They're updating to add improvements, and fix bugs; not ruin your day,

Those of you that still use µTorrent and don't like unchecking the bloatware at install, use Ninite to install it. You can then just use the same downloaded Ninite file to update µTorrent in the future, bloatware free.

Is this in reference to qBittorrent? I prefer the interface to Transmission which I think came with my Debian install, but I can't remember. qBittorrent is wholly independent from uTorrent, which is closed source. It couldn't be forked if you wanted to. Windows doesn't come with a torrent client.
