what tool to use to cut fine pictures in case side

ANyone do this yet? I need to know what tool to use. I think a sabre saw is too big, and I cant find a decent metal cutting dremel attachment that isnt a wheel.

Any suggestions?

How fine and how big? Would a dremmel with a drill bit work? If not, someone else in a different post mentioned a tool that pokes thousands of little holes to make a cut out. It was from Harbor freight. I dont remember the name of it and I dont have time to look for it.

You're thinking of an air nibbler. There are also hand nibblers out there. Very precise and controllable cuts at the expense of time/effort.

gimme a link for the nibbler would ya.

In this thread.

I linked it in one of my posts. The air nibblers are a bit more effort though and pricier. I didn't pursue it. The hand nibbler works great though, carves through aluminum and plastic like a knife through warm butter 🙂

I"ve used small endmills in my dremel before with pretty good luck. Most mills under 1/8" still have 1/8"shanks. and they come in a variety of sizes all the way down to .005". Most industrial supply places should stock them.

how would a nibbler be able to do that design? if u want to cut something in the middle of the case cover for example. is it possible? id like to try something like that and id rather deal with a hand tool then a dremel.

You just need to drill a 3/8'' hole or use a hole-punch for a pilot hole. Then nibble away 🙂

the other problem I forsee with the nibbler, is that it cant do small cuts. there has to be at least a 3/8 hole to fit it down in to do the nibbling.

Im going to try out a sabre saw on some practice metal, see if I can keep the cut clean. And also some heavier duty dremel discs.

BTW Wintermute76, what do you mean by an endmill?
