Were leisure suits being worn about that timeframe? I'm thinking they were. Of was that the 70s?

Somehow, I don't think the 80s were that memorable. The 50s would be easy. So would the 60s. Or even the 70s (think disco).

80s: Punk - denim jacket, torn jeans, safety pins. House/techno - bright t-shirt, colored sunglasses, whistle. Rap - puffy jacket, possibly without sleeves, ridiculously baggy pants.

Having just rewatched American Psycho recentyl, you could dress up as a wall-street broker; hair slicked back, suspenders, glasses, and something that looks like a designer suit.
