Hi. I want to upgrade my PC.

My specs are

CPU - Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3.40GHz
GPU - AMD Radeon r9 390
PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 850
Motherboard - ASRock z75 Pro3
SSD - Crucial
RAM - 16GB

Rig is mainly for gaming and watching movies :)

I want to upgrade my CPU and motherboard maybe? CPU for sure, but which one should I get? My current CPU is **** it's so loud and it gets very hot while gaming.

I really appreciate the help. List 2 of each so I could pick, that would be awesome!

upgrade your CPU cooler, there is no reason to upgrade the CPU, especially for gaming , you will get no performance increases. Since you're already on a R9-390, get another one or wait for Polaris/Pascal to release.

Upgrading to a 6500k or 6700k would give you ~15% more performance in heavily CPU bound tasks, but gaming is not CPU bound, it is GPU bound in 90% of games.

Your CPU should be fine for at least another 2-3 years unless you are doing some heavy encoding or similar heavily threaded workload.

Hi. CPU cooler? Would upgrading the CPU cooler make it quieter and produce less heat? Right now it's super dupa loud and very hot around 90c lol. Also why get another 390? And what is this Polaris you are talking about lol. :) :

Edit - what about mobo? My mobo is very dusty and some pins and holes are missing lol

very hot around 90c

That's an unsafe operating temperature and your CPU shouldnt hit over ~80C even during a stress test.

Sounds like you need to clean off the heatsink and the CPU, reapply thermal paste, then reseat the Heatsink or buy a new one and use that new one. a ~$50-80 CPU cooler should be under 36dBA loud and keep your CPU under 60c. The Noctua NH-D15 would be fantastic if it fits your case. Honestly in all likelihood your CPU has been throttling itself due to very hot temperatures and giving you sub-par performance because of it.

Also, unless your motherboard is failing you or missing a feature you need, there is no reason to replace it, just save your money for a full system upgrade in ~2-3 years.

Polaris is AMDs new architecture rumored to be releasing in the next few months. The only reason I said get another 390 is because that is basically the only thing you can buy right now to increase your performance in games.

There is NO reason to upgrade your current pc. As others have commented, wait for Pascal or Polaris GPU's coming out this summer IF you want to upgrade something.

And get rid of that horrible Intel stock cooler and replace it with a better one. My recommendation for cheap and a great performer is the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO for around $29-$35 range. :)

@stockwiz, did you mean to reply to [thread=2470420]this thread[/thread]?

@Cappuccino: What's your case? From that we might be able to figure out a good cooler for you.

Hi this is the case http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermaltake...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Thermaltake Versa H25 Tower Case with USB 3 Side Window and 12 cm Fan - Black

Will the suggested fans and cpu cooler suggested above fit in my case? D:

and thank you everyone for commenting and helping me out. I think I might just get a decent cpu cooler and fans like you guys suggested :)

I'd go with this:

Cheap, and infinitely better than the stock Intel fan. Your case should have no problems with it.

Yep 90c is a very scary number lol. I do wonder why my PC never shut it self down.

Whats the difference between Noctua NH-D15 Silent CPU Cooler and Cooler Master RR-212E-16PK-R1 Hyper 212 Evo? The evo one is much cheaper. Any reason why to get the Noctua instead?

Oh I see. I think I just buy a decent CPU cooler for now

Mainly size. The Noctua has larger 140mm fans, and a larger heatsink, this gives it more area to dissipate heat faster, meaning you can run the fans at a slower speed so they are quieter, or you can run them at higher speeds and have much cooler temps.

Well, I have disagree somewhat. A few cpu bound games would benefit from hyperthreading and the greater ipc from a skylake 6700k. Now would it be worth the upgrade? Probably not, especially if you get a good cooler and overclock the 3570k to 4+ ghz. You actually have a quite powerful system, but for sure you are wasting a fair amount of potential not overclocking the cpu.

Well, the Evo is cheaper; the Freezer is a little smaller and quieter. Either is fine for stock speed and light to moderate overclocking. If you want to overclock I'd also consider a Scythe Kotetsu - about the same size, but cools somewhat better. It's about the same price except for the delivery charge: £30.41 + £6.90 UK delivery.

Edit:
That particular one would not as it is 165mm tall and you case only supports up to 155mm heatsinks.

Seriously? A 209mm-wide case can't take a 160mm cooler?! That's a really bad design if so. D:

Hi thanks. So in other words the Scythe is the best one to get regardless if you overclock or not? and the the evo and freezer are the same? May I ask why are some cpu coolers so expensive? £27 is quite cheap? correct me if im wrong, the more expensive the cpu cooler is better overall? i.e better cool and less quieter?

So in other words if the specs on the Thermaltake site are correct, the only one that fits is the Freezer.

That would also imply there are 49mm, or about 2 inches of space wasted in that case. Does the window stick inward? Is there a huge ~30mm space behind the mobo for cable routing?

Yeah that's pretty sad actually. I would HOPE they give a bit of leeway 5-10mm from the stated spec. but knowing these companies...

Cap, those other coolers will require removing the motherboard from the case, removing the stock mounting brackets from the motherboard (AMD only), installing a different set of brackets, and finally installing the heatsink before reinstalling the motherboard in the case. This can be tricky for a lot of people. My recommendation for you would be to get a cooler that uses the stock mounting bracket, specifically the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO. It's easy to install (without removing the motherboard), would give you the ability to overclock if you so desired, and the price is right.
