I'm having trouble trying to figure it out if my system is still capable to max out FPS on Battlefield 4 if I just upgrade the GPU, or will I need to upgrade the core (Motherboard, CPU, RAM) first.

My actual system:

Asus P8P67 LE motherboard
Core I5 2500k
Kingston 16GB RAM
XFX AMD radeon 6870
Kingston ssd 128gb
Corsair TX650W

My target GPU it's between the Geforce GTX970 G1 from gigabyte, or the Asus R9 280X DCII TOP.

Any advice will be appreciated.

3 posts in 7 years... awesome. Hehe

Can't really answer your question without knowing what resolution you play at. But in all likelihood if your system isn't cutting the cheese it's the GPU you wanna target first. Your i5 2500k is no slouch even more than three years after its release, and 16GB RAM is plenty.

Might wanna add an R9 290 into your consideration if cost is a concern. Those can be had for around $200 used nowadays.

Edit: also might wanna ask a mod to move this to General Hardware or VC&G
