I was thinking something like this, but electronics for kids at the age of 3 are hit or miss..
No, no, no...
(steps up on soapbox)
Little kids do not need electronic toys. Little kids need toys that let them use their imaginations. Toys for kids should not just entertain them, they should
make them play! Three is an age where imagination is
blooming and we should be encouraging it at every step.
Work with this theme:
little kids like little toys. As cute as they look with the super-gigantic stuffed bear, they really like playing with toys they can manipulate in their little hands. (Not so small, however, that the toy has too many detachable parts that can be swallowed, or that they can?t re-attach or re-dress by themselves.)
(steps down from soapbox)
Some suggestions:
Toy dishes - You can find toy food to go with them, which is also fun, but you don't have to since kids are adept at making up food from their other toys (necklaces = spaghetti, etc.) Choosing the food can be its own game. What should this red block be? (apple). This yellow one? (macaroni). It's interesting to see what they decide.
Small characters or animals,
something like these My 3-year-old niece has about a million little toys like that and is playing with some of them
all the time.
Or a
small playset (While my niece adores her
doll house, it would be extravagant price-wise and certainly too large for the plane.)
Or a couple of My Little Ponies and baby ponies.
Crayola Wonder markers or finger paint and lots of extra paper (this is the kind that only colors on the special paper, not the rest of the house). Markers and/or a small MagnaDoodle would be great for the trip home.
She might be ready for Candyland (the game).
I also like
The Frog in the Kitchen Sink (book)
Even good, old-fashioned wooden building blocks or toddler legos (not the tiny ones).
Oh, and stickers. Everybody likes stickers.
Hope that helps!
