What to see in Atlanta?

IHAVEAQUESTION

Golden Member
I will be visiting friends in Atlanta from sept 6 to 10, my friends have no idea where to take me since they are new there. I am thinking to spend 6th and 7th in Atlanta and then take a mid-night drive to another city. I have no idea where the cool places are in Atlanta and which city we should be visiting next. Any suggestion?

So just stay in downtown area? Thinking maybe we should visit a few college towns (GA TECH) if it's worth it.

I don't want to stay 4 days in Atlanta, which nearby city would be fun to visit? Nashville? Savannah? Or even Orlando?

You can get some suggestions from here: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=38&threadid=2109770

Ga Tech isn't really a college town (it's in downtown Atlanta), can't do much on the campus. If you want a real college town you'll have to go about an hour east to Athens (University of Georgia). I haven't really been to Emory which is pretty close to downtown, but the CDC is there. Charleston and Savannah are charming southern towns.

Ok, I got a pretty good idea of what to do in Atlanta from reading that thread.

What about suggestion for a nearby city? I am open to anything as long as it's unique and fun to visit.

Yeah, I am definitely going to world of coke!

Also, stone mountain, virginia highland, olympic park, E ponce (?) and maybe atlantic station (not sure what to see there).

But what about nearby city? Where do you atlantician go on a get-away weekend?

I heard the aquariaum (sp?) there is awesome.

Yeah, supposed to be really top notch. Best in the country I believe.

It's ok. I've been there half a dozen times at this point, because anyone that visits always wants to go there. The whale sharks are great, but the rest is pretty normal in my opinion.

The best aquarium I've visited was in Monterrey, but maybe just because the setting is so spectacular.

Atlanta is lacking in tourist spots. The usual stuff:

1. CNN Center tour.
2. Walk across Centennial Olympic Park and reach #3 and #4.
3. Georgia Aquarium
4. Coca-Cola museum.
5. Take pictures of the Atlanta sign from the CNN parking deck.
6. Climb the Westin and take pictures of the downtown connector.
7. Drive out to Stone Mountain and stay there until it closes.
8. Do not, DO NOT eat at The Varsity.

The Cheetah

You want him to travel all the way to the ATL to go to a strip club?

He is going to go there to visit friends, so the strip club wouldn't be his only reason for going. That said, it probably is well worth the trip 😉

The view from the top of the Westin in downtown is great. Get dinner or drinks up there. For a completely different dining experience, go to The Varsity for the worlds largest Drive in restaurant.

The aquarium just added a giant manta ray.
