Talk to your Doctor. Honestly, as much as the public assumes there is a lot of animosity between the two professions there is nothing further from the truth.
Doc's only dislike the chiro quacks and the only chiro's that bad mouth real doc's are the quacks. Otherwise we have a very good working relationship with each other.
Every primary care doctor I worked with thus far has 2-3 chiropractors (sometimes acupuncturists, herbalist, hypnotists, etc) that they trust and will send patients to when those patients either request alternative treatment or medical measures has thus far not had adequate results.
Honestly, pain management is a huge issue in primary care and frankly most doctors DO NOT want to deal with it any more. There is too much legal nonsense, drug abuse, paranoia, police, etc. nonsense that goes with it.
And, again, honestly, some people are obviously in pain and we have nothing that works for them. If chiropractors keep them from needing a script of percocets we are all about it.
The good Chiropractors also know they need doc's for the stuff they just aren't getting results for. And there will be plenty of occasions when a person quite obviously needs an MRI or something similar and if you are in good with the Chiro they will send that patient your way.
That said, warning signs are Chiro's that are selling "enzymes" for 90 bucks a pop that they want you on for the rest of your life and the guys that feel like they need to xray you about 3 time every visit. I get very weary when I hear Chiro and Xray. Or should I say Multiple Xrays.
They are supposed to be "hands on" people and really shouldn't need to shower you in rads every 2 weeks. But that is just my opinion. There are plenty of ER docs who are much worse with CT scanning.
