I'm not a religious person at all, but I also don't feel the need to ridicule those who do.

On that we agree. I bet we agree on a lot of things. I believe that there should be some common sense rules of engagement between believers and non-believers and between believers of different faiths all predicated on the simple, undeniable fact that nobody wants to hear about other peoples delusions. I think all believers are delusional. All believers think we atheists are delusional. Muslims think Christians are delusional. Hindus think Jews are delusional. So rule one is to not talk about your personal delusions because nobody wants to hear it.

I will NEVER knock on somebodys door to try to convince them that their delusions are wrong and that mine are right and I ask for the same courtesy in return. Those that do knock on my door to tell me about why I'm wrong give up their right to not be told why they're wrong. I will not seek you out to tell a person that he's an idiot, but if he insists upon seeking me out to tell me that I'm an idiot I will most definitely tell him why, in great detail, he's an idiot. I believe that's fair. Do you agree?

I will NEVER start a thread about religion here and I will NEVER interject god or religion into a thread where it has not been brought up previously. I expect the same courtesy in return. You don't insist on telling me about your delusions and I won't point out that they;re delusions. If you force me to listen to your religious views you will get mine in return I believe that's fair. Do you agree?

I think that if a person with enough longevity here to be a moderator starts a thread about the blatherings of the pope in here instead of the proper folder he should realize what's going to happen and understand that the conversation can only go one direction. And I believe it's disingenuous to start a thread about the pope and then throw up your hands in mock outrage that the conversation went exactly where you knew it would go all along. Do you honestly want to make the case that you started a thread on the pope without knowing that someone would question it and that some believer would rush in to defend it? Really?

I believe in the golden rule, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Do you agree?

I believe that if the pope does unto me by telling me what I'm doing wrong then he has opened the door for me to do unto him in kind and to freely talk about his failures and those of the criminal organization he speaks for. Do you agree?

youre right it has nothing to do with what you posted since i did not reply to you. but the fact that you took offense anyway speaks volumes. good luck with that.
Don`t use the word WE -- use the word YOU can still diddle little kids......
Some people take offense to ignorant people who try to lump all people who believe a certain way into one group!!
You are now dismissed to go and diddle...............

You are part of the problem. You support those people with your words and your money. If your bowling team decided to become child molesters you'd probably quit. If your local supermarket was serving as a front for genocide you'd shop somewhere else. But you won't do shit about the men in the funny hats who you believe speak to god on your behalf. YOU and the people like you should be the ones demanding change, demanding reform, demanding that those people act like human beings. Why aren't you?

You are part of the problem. -- I don`t think that what I believe is a problem, maybe to you since you have nothing better to do than to try to tear my beliefs down!
You support those people with your words and your money. If your bowling team decided to become child molesters you'd probably quit. If your local supermarket was serving as a front for genocide you'd shop somewhere else. But you won't do shit about the men in the funny hats who you believe speak to god on your behalf. -- Intelligence is lacking , I see!?? You assume quite a bit, and you really know nothing about my beliefs except that you are going to be uninformed and try to tear down my beliefs because you don`t agree with or for that matter even know my beliefs! If you knew anything about religion you would know if is a very personal thing and I for one do not need somebody in a cute hat to intercede or speak for me to God, I am perfectly capable of speaking for myself!
Nor do I need somebody who thinks they know giving me a lecture about something they know little about! Unless of course you were one of those people who was diddled!

YOU and the people like you should be the ones demanding change, demanding reform, demanding that those people act like human beings. Why aren't you? -- How do you know that we are not demanding change? You don`t why? Instead you are happy tearing down other beliefs or what you think they believe!

As another poster stated earlier --
I'm not a religious person at all, but I also don't feel the need to ridicule those who do.

There's a lot of things, with many different cultures, that make zero sense. However, if something is important to someone, but I think it might be a little on the "silly" or "not likely" side, I don't feel the need to take a huge shit on it in an effort to put them down.

exactly, the diddler is in denial in fact he wants others to solve his problem that he was diddled as a child, instead of standing up like man and doing something about it!!
holy fucking shit did you just suggest that a child is supposed to stand up like a man and do something about being molested??!? WHAT IN THE FUCK

I suggested that a man who was diddled is suppose to stand up like a man ......
Of course your being the way you are and did not read what i stated - you know better than that --
the diddled (as an adult) is in denial in fact he wants others to solve his problem that he was diddled as a child, instead of standing up like man and doing something about it!!
But that is ok.....you never cease to disappoint!!

It is ironic that a simple message suggesting something to do for lent can be blown out of proportions by our anti - religious crowd, when this thread did not start out in this way....a simple message take it or leave it!
Has it ever occured to you all that sometimes it is better to just move along or as another poster stated -- There's a lot of things, with many different cultures, that make zero sense. However, if something is important to someone, but I think it might be a little on the "silly" or "not likely" side, I don't feel the need to take a huge shit on it in an effort to put them down.

But you don`t need to crap on everything that is religious in nature -- again -- what is wrong with this simple message? Other than you don`t like Catholics, or you don`t like the Pope or you just don`t like anything of the sort?

You are being disengenuos -- most or all of the above is just blabbering that is not true!'
Actions speak louder than words! Your actions do not equate to what you posted!
Then you try to be cute and imply that anything that is posted about religion or the church or even the pope is fair game for ridicule and shitting on a thread!
The better tact would be perhaps to stay out of the thread......
Again what is wrong with these suggestions for things to practice during Lent?
If it was Ghandi or Allah or Donald Trump would your reactions be consistent?
See the message has not changed ---

WOW, you cannot be serious. Do you even know what you are saying? Apparently you utterly lack any critical thinking skills. According to you a victim of sexual assault is supposed to "stand up like a man and do something about it" and is in denial(of what I dont know) and wants others to solve their problem.

Sounds to me like you are suggesting that the victim is supposed to take matters into their own hands and get revenge/justice on their own without any help from others. Actually that sounds about right... sounds like something one would read in a bible. sad.
