what to get my girlfriend?

Aharami

Lifer
our 1 year is coming up in about a month. i know its a big deal and i wanna do it right. just wondering to get her and how to make it special? i was thinkin dinner @ tavern on the green (NYC) and a broadway show or something...but dinner and a 'movie' is too played out.

any suggestions?

no flames please!

it's all about stuff that's memorable... so do something that will make it that much more memorable, and you won't need to buy anything extra =)

diamonds are forever, but they are expensive, so don't get her that.

I figure just kill her, death is forever, and its a lot less expensive.

or, take her out on a boatride with dinner included or something, and then to a small concert or a broadway show.

broadway does not equal a movie.

i, being a big fan of shows, would love broadway. i would have loved it doubly if you've always stated you're not a fan and are willing to go. if you're not a big fan of dressing up, taking her to a nice restaurant all decked out would make it even more beautiful.

you can always add a night at a hotel at the end of the night. that way you don't have to worry about where you're going and you can just stroll "home" for the night. you also get to spend the next day in the city too.

Horse and buggy ride around the park, then a candle lit picnic. At the picnic, you give her a small gift that shows how much you love and care for her.

any good restaurant suggestions in the NYC area? i dunno dinner in the city is always more romantic. how is tavern on the green...the food..the atmosphere...the $$?

nm, it's a bad joke

But in all seriousness, do a picnic, take her somewhere she's never been or has always wanted to go, or do something out of the ordinary.

Never been there myself, but I have a Zagat's subscription, so I'll copy/paste that for ya.

(out of 30 max)
Food - 15; Decor - 24; Service - 17; Cost - $60

While this over-the-top "glitzy", "circus-like Central Park classic" "tourist" "institution" is "fantastic in the winter" in the Crystal Room, with the "lights and the snow", "in the summer" for dining in the garden or at any time for an elegant party, it does have its share of detractors who find it "tacky" and "underserviced" with "mediocre", "overpriced" American food; the bottom line tribute to its founder Warner Le Roy's genius is that our surveyors often choose to eat here when they are showing off NYC.

Union Square Cafe
Aureole
Blue Water Grill
Pastis (better for brunch/lunch)
Sushi Samba (fun)
Sushi of Gari (tiny, but some of the best sushi in the city...wave out the window if you go, I live across the street! 🙂 Don't order off the menu, ask Gari to prepare you something.)

Do it while she's peering through a telescope at MARS. She won't be seeing it again for another few hundred years or more so she'll definitely remember it.

Don't forget to tell her men are from Mars.

It all depends on the individual girl, and that's the key. I had a girlfriend once who went to a conservatory where they practiced 5 hours a day, so she'd gotten pretty tired of playing, but still enjoyed teaching and composing. So, I crafted a box out some Brazillean redwood and a few other types ($0). Then, I bought some 150 sheets of parchment from Office Depot ($15) and had the print center there print blank sheet music bars onto each page, with a line at the top "composed by (her)" ($10). And thus $25 and a half hour or so of work on the box rivals any diamond.

So, yeah, that's mostly bragging, but the point is to individualize it.
