I got 1500£ to spend on hardware, can you give me a list or something of what to get for the money -
things which are not included are:
monitor / case / ram / coolers
Also should i get two 8800GTS 320 mb in SLI or one 8800GTX - for the same money?
Is this spec good or you have a better choice?

700W seasonic m12
500Gig seagate barracuda 7200.10 16mb
X-fi extreme gamer
Razer Copperhead blue + Pro tools + Razer exact mat

Intel 6600
Striker Extreme
8800GTX Gainward
2x 74gig Raptors raid 0
400gig samsung spinpoint 16mb

dont bother with SLI, specially since it wont work with vista yet.

add to that single GPU gaming always seems to be a smoother experience. if you can afford the GTX do it, if not the GTS 640 is a good choice.

C2D e6600 is also a good choice price/performance wise. i personally wouldnt bother with raptors in raid. maybe 1 raptor as a games only drive, but more likely i'd pick up 1 or 2 spinpoints. i believe the higher density spinpoint drives are quite fast anyway.

i have no idea what a striker extreme is, but i'd maybe drop the X-fi extreme gamer and just get a X-Fi music.

even though you havent mentioned coolers, ill vouch for zalmans 9500 and 9700. good bits of kit they are. tuniq tower is also good.

what you doing for a mobo? probably going for 680i based board?

i have the razer mat, its good, (its got 2 sides, rough and smooth one for control one for speed) though i will warn you now my logitech G7 laser mouse does not like the control side, it just doesnt move. on the G7 for a bit...... its a great mouse, logitech make some good gaming mice and i'd pick them over razer if you would like wireless as well.

good choice on the PSU. i have had such a good experience with them that i rarely look at any other brand. i just go straight for the seasonics.

£1500 should get you a nice machine from scan. they have great prices.

Wow, gaming mouse mats.

OP's original list actually looks pretty good. Seconding Zalman and Tuniq Tower as well. Personally I'd drop the external sound card altogether if you're using Vista, besides the striker has 8-channel HD audio onboard. Also, SLI isn't worth the money you'll spend. Get a single 8800GTX.

Striker extreme is the motherboard (Asus) 680i
I dont like logitech mouse, wireless is quite crap also.Copperhead is the best gaming mouse imo,i've had 3.The E6600 is cooler with Tuniq Tower 120 - already got it.
I'm going for X-Fi music.

each to his own:p logitechs G7 doesnt suffer from lag at all btw. not a jot. though it does come with hot-swap batteries that will last about a day if you game heavily throughout the day. though id imagine if you are super serious about gaming, wired mice will win the day.

tuniq tower is a good choice

i think all you need to make sure off is that the RAM will play nice with the mobo, which 9 times out of 10, it will. had a few friends that fell down on that though, usually with corsair ram.

looks like a pretty kick ass system. 8800 should provide the best DX9 gaming experience you can buy today. though its DX10 performance is unproven as of yet.

I already bought 2x OCZ 2gig 6400 C4 memory which makes 4GB in all.
do you think i made a wrong choice of memory?I could go for 4gigs 8500 memory for about 90 pounds more

i bought 2 of the 6400 OCZ becouse they were ridiculously cheap - 99 pounds per 2gigs

what do you think

Also i bough Viewsonic VX2025 - hottest 20" inch widescreen you can get - and i got two of them for dual screen. They got Bittech gold award btw
