Alright I got a

Athlon 2500+
768 Megs of Corsair DDr Ram @ 400
Geforce 4 4200 128Mbs.
1 80 Gig and 1 120 Gig Harddrive
Dvd Burner
17 inch CRT

Currently I play CounterStrike and Warcraft 3. I plan on buy FAHRENHEIT, Stalker etc.

FAHRENHEIT demo ran well on my pc but looked bland texture wise.

I was thinking a Geforce 6600 or a 6800, and a 17 inch LCD and some more ram.

I would like this pc to last another year or so. I don't want to upgrade my motherboard/proc because when I go off to college this pc will be sitting at home unused except weekends.

Good idea?

Thanks

if that athlon is an xp-m, make good use of it's overclocking capabilities. how many sticks of rams are there and what size is each one? try to get to 1gb ram, minimum. a 6800nu with a little tweaking will give it the juice it will need to alst out a year.

Get a 6600 GT and at least a 21" CRT. 17" LCD too small for games, for me anyway.

Its 512 and a 256, I have to give the 256 back to my dad soon.

21 inch Crt is overkill, resoulution would need to be high otherwise it will look funny.

The 17 inch is 1024 x 768 and prolly the best my pc will run with newer games.

Thanks so far.

How much money are you willing to spend?Like the previous poster mentioned, i would OC the chip or get a 3200 XP. You also might want to pick up more ram, and a 6600 gt or even a 6800 gt. with those vid cards, you can easily run games at 1600x1200 or 1680x1050 if you decide to purchase a widescreen LCD (i.e. dell 2005)

If you really want your system to last for another year or so I'd suggest you stay away from a 6600gt. It's a great card(I own one), but you'll have a lot more breathing room with your graphics settings 6 months from now if you get a more mid range card like a x800xl, or what I'd suggest a 6800gt. Even games coming out in the next week or so are going to be pushing the limits of the 6600gt.

Actually, there is only one and its on auto notify :(.

There are like 2 pages full of AGP 6600GT's... Don't invlude nVidia in your search. nVidia only makes the chips, not the cards. Since you have AGP, try going for the 6800 AGP, which can be unlocked. And yes, try to overclock your 2500+ do get some more performance out of it.

Get either a 6800GT/X800XL (whichever you prefer), buy another stick of 512Mb RAM, and OC a little if you know how to. That should set you up for another year, if not more (on lower settings).
Regarding Fahrenheit, the game will look the same on newer hardware; the game itself has low res textures and older graphics engine. It's a nice game nonetheless.
