I have a soon to be 5 yr old Dachshund. I believe she must be inbred because she is so stupid, but her apparent stupidity is a small reason for my concern.
I have a 3 year old son and a 7 month old son. The dog does not like being around the children and has bitten the 3 year old several times (face, ear, arm, etc), drawing blood once. With the three year old it is not entirely her fault because he doesn't know when to leave her alone. The dog has been written up for biting in the past when she bit my wife on the hand and she had to see a doctor. Just a month ago, the dog bit my foot when I was trying to keep her from getting out the door when the UPS guy was at the door. Luckily for her it healed without the need for a doctor. If she gets written up once more, she will be terminated by the city. She definitely has more than three strikes against her in my book, but I believe I will feel remorse if I take her to the Animal Shelter. The Humane Society will not accept her because of her known biting.
This is my third dog, and the first I have ever had so many problems with. I have had many friends say to get rid of her, but then there are others who think she is family and that I should not.
UPDATE: I am working with Dachshund Rescue to find a home for my dog.
