Convert it into MPG and destroy the cassettes. Store the MPG in a strongly encrypted format and in a secure location: NOT on your hard disk -- but rather, perhaps burned on a CD and placed with your most valuable posessions, ie: birth certificate, important documents etc -- preferably in a locked fire-safe box. You may also want to obscure the location of the file on the CD, perhaps place the actual file deep in a subdirectory.

Maybe somebody can chime in about encryption, I know very little about it.
