What to do with fake bill

I went to Pepboys to buy a new brakelight bulb and the cashier thought the $10 bill I gave her looked weird and she used the marker on it and sure enough it was fake. Do I just rip it up and throw it away or should I take it to a bank so they can have it? The more I look at the bill the easier it is to see how fake it is. It doesn't even feel like a real bill cus the paper on it doesn't even feel right but I didn't even think about it until I actually looked at it after we verified it`s fake.

OP, do NOT throw it away. Unless you printed the money yourself (which I doubt) you should return it to a financial institution so that you might be made whole.

Bring it back to where you got it or your local bank. Also, you are lucky the store you tried to use it in, even unknowingly, didn't call the FBI and lock you up for passing counterfeit money.

I didn't think anyone made fake tens? Why bother when you can easily add a zero?

I think the logic is that people will be less likely to give as much scrutiny to smaller bills. i.e. easier to pass off. At many places, $50s & $100s are routinely checked, occasionally $20s. But, I've never seen someone check a $10.

You certainly will not be "made whole." You should take it to a bank, they take it from you and then you go home.

They will fill out a form, and then it will sit in the back room at the bank with a pushpin through it on the wall for a few weeks.

This, when color inkjet printers were starting to get popular, a guy I knew in high school was making 1's, 5's and 10's and just buying fast food with them. They were awful quality, but no one expected it, especially people working in fast food joints taking money quickly.

Just left the bank. They didn't make me whole so I lost $10 but that amount isn't a big deal at all. They looked at me weird and acted like I was the bad guy. I gave them my ID and they wrote a report and gave me a copy. Now I guess within the next few days Clint Eastwood is going to knock on my door asking me about the fake bill.

That sucks that you lost the $10. Now I know going forward, always play dumb and pass it off to another location. Let the businesses realize it and deal with the loss.

An inkjet printer? Making a $1 on one of those wouldn't be worth the ink! 😛

lol you are a idiot if you really think they are going to Call the FBI and he will get locked up.

Throw it away. Seriously. Innocent people are only going to get harassed by the police for doing the right things, so avoid the law whenever possible.
