what to do with books?

I have a lot of books that i'd rather not hang on to.

a fair portion of them are old textbooks (not gonna be wanted, cause they're not recent versions), but i also have a bunch of novels.

how would i go about getting rid of them? could i get any money for them at all? (even tax writeoff)

note: this isnt everything. i have a lot of "indiana jones and..." novels, as well as a lot of dean koontz novels.

You could get a deduction for donating them to your library (probably $1-$2 each).

If you put them in a recycling bin, remove the hard covers first. The covers aren't recyclable.

Check the ISBN numbers on Amazon to look at typical resale value.

If you've got a local college campus, call and see if they have donation boxes for sending books to Africa.
If they're technical/textbook things, donate them to the campus library.

Or else give them to a local library.

if anyone's curious, i updated the op with a sampling of the books i'm getting rid of. i still have a few more shelves to go... those shelves have most of the novels.

i have a lot of "indiana jones and ...." books, and a lot of dean koontz books. those are the things that stick out offhand.

heh, according to amazon my textbook collection is worth a grand total of $35.

:/

Don't listen to those other guys. Just 'cause you wanna donate your book doesn't mean the library wants it. You can try ninja donation and dump all your books into the book return slot at the library if you don't wanna be the book killer, but I'm pretty sure the library people will just throw your book in the trash bin.

I have too many old text books I just dump them in my recycling bin and treat them like old newspaper and magazine.
