very large mp3 player
portable web browser (with usb or pcmcia wireless adapter)
back up small important files to it
offload digital pics to it when vacationing
gps system for car (with gps adapter)
very large portable HD

I doubt it has the oomph for avi playback though.

hows the battery?

Im typing this on a celeron 500 notebook with 128 megs and a wireless adapter and drag it around the house when browsing, thats my main use, as well as transporting large files around. my gf uses a pentium 200 notebook with 80 megs for pretty much the same thing. since theyre old we dont really card if something happens to them. so your 333 should be fine for casual uses.

old laptops tend to find new uses for all sorts of things. its worth the 20 bucks for a battery imo.

Keep it if you have a use for it...or...donate it to your favorite charity...perhaps your Church if you attend. Its monitary value is nill.

I'll pay good money for it. (PM me if you're interested!)
Old laptops with serial ports make dandy robot controllers; if it's got both USB and serial, then it can be used with a 10$ USB webcam to form something that's about as functional for basic robots as a 850$ camera unit, but much cheaper.

We're using windows 95 with hyperterm on old laptops at work anytime we need to work on hardware.

This coming from someone so new to robotics he does not even know how to program in c?

How does XP run on it? I have a Presario 1245 and XP ran horribly. 2k Pro is okay. My ThinkPad 600e (PII 300) runs XP just fine, on the other hand...

It would be cool to just have a cheap laptop with a GPS unit for driving maps/directions....good use there.

I have Compaq Presario 1255 laptop I use it for browsing, type a letter. I really don't think Win XP will run good on this old laptop but it runs with win98se and also it have Firefox, wordperfect 12 thats about it.
It needs new battery so I could take it with me to Noble and Barnes bookstore.
