Welp, my "spare" PC is a Celeron-433 and here's the list of things it does:
1 Maintains backup of router logs
2 IDE RAID array (main file server for the house)
3 Email terminal for visiting guests
4 Hosts LAN games like Neverwinter Nights and UT
5 Guest PC for LAN games like UT and Diablo 2
Gets constant use for #1 and #2. I have all my MP3s on that machine and play them via a Rio Receiver hooked up to my stereo. #3 is also very useful ... when guests come over and need to check email I let them check on the spare PC no problem without having to give them access to my main PC.
So basically if I can do all that with a measely Cel-433 imagine what your P3-500 can do!
