I recently bought an item on FS/FT and it doesn't seem likely that it will come... In the case that the item is lost... does the buyer bite the bullet and lose everything? How do these things work out? Help!

The seller must refund all costs to you if the package is declared lost. The seller gets reimbursed through insurance, if they didn't purchase insurance then too bad, they eat the costs.

Yup, it's the shippers responsibility unless it specifically says in their terms and conditions that it's the buyers responsibility. Also, if they gave you a chance to take insurance and you passed on it then it's your responsibility. Otherwise, it's the shippers.

Regardless of whether insurance was offered to you, the seller must still refund all costs in the event of loss of shipment. It's a simple matter of law. You cannot have terms and conditions that violate the law.

It is the shipper's responsibility to make sure the goods purchased are delivered.

The shipper should pick it up unless you specifically declined insurance for one reason or another; in which case a compromise might be reached depending on the terms prior to the agreement.

So then how come some companies give you the option to pay for insurance? Shouldn't they charge it in the shipping price regardless because they're responsible either way?

wow, thanks a lot guys... and btw, i bought it from another trader on FS/FT... so there weren't any "terms and conditions" - just whatever silent code of trading ethics that exists.

Insurance covers much more than just lost items.
