I have a 4 year old Dell 17" 0.26 DP monitor that has a problem displaying vertically, horizontally its fine but not vertically. This has happened before and the last time it cost me 150 bucks (CDN) to get it fixed. Its a really good monitor (when it works) but i dont feel like dropping that kinda money into it when i want to get a 19" to replace it. The cost to repair it would defeat the purpose of selling it, cuz i couldnt get all that much for a 4 year old monitor. I have no use for it, it would just sit there taking up room.

So do i fix it, or do i try and sell it for 25 bucks to someone else to fix?

actually the monitor has died twice, this is the 3rd, all with the same problem. First time happend exactly 2 days after the warranty expired (only 1 year from Dell, doh)
then the first place i took it to get fixed repaired it, and warrantied it for 2 years but the 2nd time it died and i went to take it back to the company they were outta business so no more warranty
haha
sucked

now its just pissing me off.

I agree, I was going to say fishtank, but someone beat me to it. Really old macintoshes work best but monitors are good too. Wonder what I'll do with my flatpanel when it dies.

I recommend using a golf club, baseball bat, your feet, and rocks to utterly destroy this monitor. Find some sort of remote area and beat it to small pieces. I've done this before, except with a 21" Apple monitor. The results are amazingly rage-relieving. Satisfaction 100% guaranteed.

No, no. There's some neat goodies in old TVs/Monitors.

Build a Jacob's Ladder with the flyback transformer. Scare your neighbors. ;)

Of course, if you kill yourself, it's not my fault. ;)

Discharge any (large) capacitors with an insulated screwdriver, or other such device, or taking apart that monitor may be the last thing you do- even if it's been unplugged for a month. Six months for that matter. A year, even. ;)

test to see whether gravity really works.
find a tall building. go to the top. throw the monitor off. if it hits the ground and breaks into a million piece or damages a car or something, gravity works.
