unopened first beatles album,
Could be some major cash. Depending upon cover condition, manf. and pressing dates, I have seen these sell for 3-5 thousand dollars. Your best bet is to make a detailed list and go from there.

I think I'll try to find the list he had made and post back here with my findings.

I'm looking for ideas on how to get rid of all of them. I understand some of the records may be worth some good money (unopened first beatles album, etc.), but i'd definately feel weird selling them for a profit.

Has anyone ever had to get rid of stuff after the passing of a loved one? What did you do?

I feel if I simply donated them all to good will they'd be wasted. eBay? Craigslist? Drop them from a plane over the desert?

lots of old records are worth a fortune.

Album art

you may want to visit the coffee shop at rochester institute of technology, they have their walls (included bathrooms) filled with albums (stacking next to each other.)

If your family is not interested in selling them, donate them to a school's music program. It could be a great way for them to raise money.

Send them to me.

No seriously, you should sell them for a profit, and I'll tell you why. Because that is the best way to make sure that they will go to someone who will appreciate them and take care of them, like your father did.

I've considered it in my head over and over again but I really don't have anywhere to put them!

This is a very good point. It's just sad how many records are in bad shape because people didn't really appreciate them or take proper care of them.

I agree, that is a very valid point. My father did truly care for hus music.

Alphabetically in boxes made to hold records, placed on a giant shelving system he had built by a friend to hold them all.

Start a company called NetTunes, and rent them out to people! (Make sure to have a good deposit system to help ward off theft and damage).

They usually attack in moldering waves. They're not so much organized as driven by a ravenous hunger for human flesh.

Rip them onto CD's, for preservation of all the great music, then take care of them forever and hand them down to your most worthy offspring.

or, get them appraised and better the life for yourself, and your kids. You might be sitting on a few million, depending on how many unopened classics you have. ;)

I own a crate new 426 Chrysler Hemi, which was port plated, coated in cosmoline, bagged, crated, and has not seen daylight since 1969. My uncle gave it to me. He was going to put it in a car, but never got around to it, then had health problems. It is worth at least a hundred grand. Someday, when I get that 69 Charger, I'm gonna go to Nebraska and get my motor. :)

Antiques Roadshow?

They should also be able to point you in the right direction for an appraiser......... then put them up for auction :D

Cheers,

Ripping them to CD would take an UNGODLY amount of time.

Maybe I'll do it for certain rare records that I couldn't find in digital form otherwise.

And I really doubt they'd be worth a few million. If I had to make a wild guess I'd say they're worth $20k if sold individually. I did peruse eBay, and the Beatles stuff does fetch a pretty penny.

Wow! A sealed Hemi. A classic in it's own right!
