What to do, what to do? UPDATED NOW WITH POLL!!

Ok here's the situation. I have an old P3 @ 450mhz , loadedup on the RAM, CDRW, have 2 HD's with enough space to do the video editing, etc that I do yet, like all XY chromosome members, I want MORE POWER!!!!
So, I've decided time to upgrade to a 3ghz machine with a DVD+/-RW and CDRW for the next few years.
Here's my quandry.... Should I get one through Dell, made to specs, OR one from the local geeks who have repaired a few of the family machines I've been handed. They are decent folks and have my confidence as far as ability is concerned, but I am looking for what the group mindset is.
Suggestions are welcome, aside from throwing it all away and going back to the TRS-80 or Commodore 128.....😀
Anyone? Buehler??

no poll 🙁

Figure out what you want in the PC and see what they have at Dell. Compare prices with the locals. I'd say to go with whichever you feel more comfortable with. I'd go with Dell and get the premium (or something like that) support, just because it's not outsourced to India and it's some of the best tech support I've dealt with. That P3-450 could still be used though, maybe as a print server or to play with linux on. I'm thinking of loading up my old PC with linux just to mess around with it.. or setting it up as a print server so that when someone prints it doesn't lag my comp like hell (especially when they print a 12 page paper and I'm in the middle of a fight in planetside).

Edit: I don't really like dells, but for most users the extra costs are worth it. I don't want to be supporting someone's computer when they load a ton of spyware on it, so I tell them to goto Dell. If it's for a family member, it's different, but otherwise dell.
