What to do to prevent flies in the room??

There's a window in the room that needs to remain opened for air circulation. Unfortunately there isn't a screen on the window so there're always flies in the room. What can one do to keep them out or kill them as they come in?

and also, screens cannot be added to the window..

Hang some fly paper up in front of the window. These are house flies right?

I use to know someone who would hang up a plastic bag full of water. I don't know if it really works and yes it does sound pretty stupid. Anyone else ever hear of this?

Screens can ALWAYS be added to a window, even if you have to tape some screen over it. As long as that window is open, you're going to have flies.

AmusedOne, it's not because of technical difficulties that screens cannot be added. :) it's more like. hmmm no modification of the building is allowed.. although your post does suggest perhaps a temporary fix...

walmart sells some portable screens that are expandable. There pretty cheap we have a couple at the house. You may want to check them out.

Yep, buy some screen, cut it to size, and tape that puppy over the window. Problem solved.

I'm serious here. Anything else is just a half measure and wont be 100% effective.

You're probably right.. although it would have been cool to see a fly-catching plant in action.. :)

Heh my first response to seeing the subject line was "Close your mouth?" then *duck*

I agree with the previous poster, go to Wal-Mart and get a window mount screen, they fit in with no tools and make no changes to the frame. They're very similar to the little gates you put in hallways to keep dogs or children out of areas. You also can get them with one or more fans to exhaust your room or drive in fresh air, that also mount without hardware or modification. That way you can claim your whole room is overclocked.

Here's what Vermonters do: they don't tune-up their engines in the summer. They come back from working outside on the tractor, and have all the diesel fumes on them, killing flies in large swaths.
