I am around 145lbs 5'10".
I am just using dumbells at home.
Right now I can curl each side 40lbs, but my upper body is really freaking narrow.
What can I do to broaden my should now at age 20?
Oh, I suck at swimming, so no swimming for me.

Get different genes.

Edit:
WTH 145 and 5'10, wtf do you eat lettuce 24/7?! I'm 5 inches shorter than you and weigh just as much.

well, curls are for your biceps, so that's not going to do much in the shoulder broadening dept.

some advice from Koing (atot workout guru):

do lots of leg squats (builds testosterone, thickens out muscles everywhere)
do chest workouts (pushups, bench presses, etc)

Bench press and lateral raises are great for shoulder mass / definition. Lateral raises are when you put a dumbell in each hand (hanging at your side), and then slowly lift your hands away from your body up to shoulder height.

You need to work our chest and shoulder and lats.

chest: bench press, dumbell presses, flys, incline, decline....
shoulders: military press, lateral raises, front raises, upright rows...
lats.bentover rows,seated rows, deadlifts

also need to work your traps.

shoulder presses , kinda like a bench only you sit up and push up above your head with dumbells.
military press, start at chest (barbell) and push up past chin and above head
these will work your anterior deltoids
lateral raises, raise upper arms to sides until elbows are shoulder height (dumbells)
upright rows, barbell grasp bar shoulder width and pull bar to neck elbows first
these will work your lateral deltoids
those are most common of shoulder workouts

now to get wider you want to work your back not your shoulders. (to get a nice "V" shape, know what i mean?)
