what to do in san fran?

i am thinking about going to san fran at the end of september. anything that i should not miss in the city? i like sightseeing, hiking, etc. art not so much.

Dude. I think this question gets popped up like every two weeks. You might get a lot of suggestions if you do a search.
But if you're going to SF, I'll suggest some things that tourists seem to like.

* Lombard st (crooked st area)
* Pier 39
* Marin Headlands
* Baker Beach
* Chinatown

If you venture outside of the city and have a car, you can go to these places.
* Big Sur
* Point Reyes
* Carmel/Monterey area
* Napa
* Half Moon bay
* Santa Cruz

Lots of beaches around. Lots of foody places in SF and adjacent areas.

Remember that this place is expensive. If you venture outside of the city, rent a car. Otherwise try to take Muni everywhere.
I don't live in SF but I work there everyday. Love it here.

There is usually really good weather in SF during September, so it's a great time to visit.

For touristy things, grab a bite to eat in the morning on the Wharf, maybe take a boat cruise out to Alcatraz Island and tour for a couple of hours, get back and walk to Ghirardelli Square, but make sure to hit the Buena Vista for an Irish coffee or two during the walk between.

Check out the bison in Golden Gate Park. Located nearby are the SF Zoo and Conservatory of Flowers.

Visit Coit Tower for the view at the top, then walk down Telegraph Hill.

Outside the city, there's lots of things to do as well, just depends how far you want to go. Sausalito is close, Sonoma & Napa are quite a bit further to the north, but only about an hour drive. To the south, you have lots of places along highway 1 which runs along the coastline. Big Sur and Carmel are nice, but would probably cost you a full day.

was in Santa Rosa for a friend's wedding last month...stopped by SF on the way to the airport....here are some touristy shots..

- Eat Real, Jack London Square 9/27-29
- Toronado, Mikkeller Bar, Beer Revolution, mmmmm beer
- Russian River in Santa Rosa if you can make the drive, Drake's in San Leandro if you want to stay closer
- Yume in Alameda, best sushi in the bay
- Off The Grid, try the food trucks, or go to Fruitvale for tacos
- Salmon runs in the rivers, rockcod should still be good

For something different, check out Niles district of Fremont, east bay. Old town atmosphere, small shops, things like old movies and a steam train and a tea lunch room.

No one says san fran except outsiders. Sounds ridiculous, especially to the natives.

Same with Frisco. Damn hicks.

If you want to go to Frisco, you gotta go here:

Either say The City or just say San Francisco

I am guessing its like Chi Town for Chicago. No native Chicagoan would ever use Chi Town.

Same with the big apple for NYC.

So not true lol. I grew up in San Bruno. We always called it San Fran. Still do. Some people do, some people don't.

And even if what you said was true. He is an outsider 😛

I suppose there are some.

I've lived in the bay area most all my life and I never heard a bay area native, ever, refer to SF as san fran.

We always say, the city.

Or just San Francisco.

I was trying to help him not to sound like an outsider. I am sure I am too late though, because he'll just call it frisco to spite me.

Check out the Castro and Tenderloin districts. They're right up your alley.

I think the Castro is sort of fun for people watching. It's like being in a real life Priscilla of the Desert. By that I mean, there were several guys walking around dressed in sequined dresses with full headpieces.
