How are the job and housing markets in that area?

housing is slowing down a bit, but still pretty high - really depends on what part of the valley you want to live. the job market is pretty decent and broad.
when i moved to tempe last year, my dad was looking at this one house that i could've gotten for 210,000. Seemed like a pretty decent deal. Except the exact same model house, in the same little housing development sold for 160k a month before that.

Yeah... 40k in a month. My dad has been doing real estate in san francisco since the 80's and he was just completely shocked at what was going on in the phoenix area. Those same houses that went for 210,000 in May of 05 went for less than 130 in May of 03

you can float the salt river. nice 4 hour float trip, and the water is cold enough to keep the beer nice and frosty.

as far as the serial killers - sure they are here, but in reality where are they not? there is always some sick mofos screwing sh!t up somewhere.

not the cleanest water and you will probably get a sunburn. 4hrs in the sun will eat you alive, seriously, then add beer and you will get really f*cked up. don't let the cloudiness fool you - you will still get a nasty burn through them. i also don't think the water would be cool enough to keep beer frosty - most people bring a cooler full of beer with ice, then float it down with them.

since you can't do the club stuff, maybe go to a couple of the malls, most people don't do a lot this time of year because of the high humidity, thus they just stay indoors or go swimming. if you have time you may want to head up north and check out sedona.

what do you like to do and maybe we can help you find places to go?

Which malls are the best near Phoenix? We're staying at the Wyndham Hotel. :)
don't go to arizona mills. Ghettoness ftw

Scottsdale Fashion Square, Chandler Fashion Square if you are looking for nicer places. Outlet mall: straight up the I17 at the New River exit.

This place I am living in was almost half the price about 2 years ago.

that is the same with our condo - we bought in 2003 for $125,000 and now the ones in our complex are going for between 250-300K. they are on the market for much longer though - when we bought our i think it was on the market for 2-3days, now they seem to be on for a couple of weeks.

IIRC most of the state belongs to either a branch of the military or native american tribes.

yuma or phoenix? either way this is not the best time to come because of the monsoons - electrical storms, microbursts, extremely humid compared to normal, so what you will be experiencing is not the norm. just an fyi

I know it's hot and stuff. I've been in Flagstaff during monsoon. I don't really have a choice in timing. :) I'll be staying with very good friends of mine. And Yuma.

Well, it was kind of like this:

Staying in Goodyear AZ, Want to gamble? 45 min drive to Phoenix
Home cookin? Back to Goodyear
See a movie in Tempe? Back to Phoenix
Drive up South Mountain? Central Phoenix
Drinks in Scottsdale? Scottsdale
Check out Fountain Valley? .....
Watch the sunset at the track? ....

And on...and on.. and on. If you want to do anything youve got to drive all over the place.

Housing is crazy. Our landlord is trying to sell the property that we are renting. Hes asking 320,000. Our lease doesnt end until May, and we only pay 1000/Mo rent.

I live in the Tampa area so I know very well about absurd home price appreciation. The job market is weak unless you want to be a telemarketer or home construction. I'm tired of all the bugs and the stupid price increases in insurance, if you can get a policy, or property taxes.
