I guess it depends on what kind of stuff you like to do. The landscape / hiking etc is absolutely fantastic, and there are lots of things to go see.

The glow-worm caves are pretty neat, Rotorua is pretty cool where they have all the geothermal volcanic activity with natural hot-baths etc, and I loved going to see Mt. Cook and surrounding area -- absolutely fantastic. Definitely pack in a trip on a ferry through Milford Sound. It's not for everyone, but the highlight of my trip was definitely the whale-watching excursions at Kaikoura -- awesome, words don't do it justice.

Auckland was pretty much a normal fairly large city, but Wellington and Christchurch were really nice to visit. If you feel like some action, take the "shotover jet" , that's the ride of your life (I survived :) Plenty of bungy jumping and things like that if you like, but that's not really my kind of thing.

Drop me a PM if you want more info, I really enjoyed my trip down there.....

I can answer any questions about Auckland you might have, but unfortunately you'll probably end up seeing more of my country than I have in the few weeks you're here :p

All the big, epic scenery is in the South Island, but all the civilisation is in the North.
