What to do in Hamburg, Germany

Anyone ever been to Hamburg and know of things to do/see?

I've spent the last 8 days in Paris and parts of southern France. I fly out to Hamburg Saturday to spend a week there before returning home. I'll have a few down days from work to see the city, so should be fun.

Man, we've been doing that every day! The French LOVE their wine. They also have this thing about two hour lunches. We've been told several times not to worry about being late to meetings, that lunch is more important?!?!? They sit around and have 4 course meals and drink!

I love Europe for this reason alone.

Drink away

I don't get there until Nov. 1st. I'm going to make an assumption here that Oktoberfest will be over by then? 🙂

Yes, Plenty of beer drinking and brats will be consumed. French food is good when it's good, but it's horrible when it's bad.

Who's idea was it that Duck Liver was good? Plus I've been served 2 completely raw steaks and one raw chicken in the past few days. They just don't cook their meat very well! I can't eat raw chicken...

Hamburg has a nice red-light district, home to the famous Reeperbahn. Worth exploring 🙂

Perhaps take a harbor cruise. Actually, the areas of the city along the water are all worth exploring. I think the famous fish market is worth a visit.

I have good memories of the TRUDE restaurant:

Visit the Miniatur Wunderland:

Maybe visit a real German indoor thermal bath:

Get on a train and go about an hour north to Lübeck:

Take a tour of the Airbus facility, see the A380 in production:

Watch a German football (soccer) game on November 1 or 15:

Edit: If you go to TRUDE, order their famous Currywurst.

This part is too cool about Europe....I wish I could go there for work 😀

Take a look at the Google Map

The area around Landungsbrücken is where a lot of stuff happens: fish market, harbor tours. The miniature wonderland is nearby too.

The area around the Rathaus is where a lot of things happen as well.

It would be good to familiarize yourself with the U/S-Bahn transportation network.

The Baroque church just north of there at the intersection of Ludwig-Erhard Street and Englische Planke is amazing to see.

Excellent info. I'm def going to the Fish market. I know we have something to do around the peer area. Good stuff, I'll read more and see what I can do.

Did you see my first post above?

Just looking at the Google Map was a trip down memory lane. I found the Italian and Spanish Tapas restaurants where I ate. If you get sick of German food, you are safe with Italian, Spanish, Turkish...

I also do highly recommend a train trip north to Lübeck.

I was going to give some suggestions...but GT pretty much hit all of them right here. Hamburg is a wonderful city and lot of fun to visit whether you are wanting to party or sight-see.

I'm going to party and sight see! I'll have to take a trip to the red-light district - if I can ditch my co-workers again. I just want to see it and take a look around. We obviously don't have anything like that back in the states!

I saw your other post GT, but I chose to only reply to one. Those were all great suggestions and I will be going to some of those. I'm there from Saturday morning until Friday of next week.
