There's a Windows98 shutdown patch on Microsoft's website.
It fixed my computer.

Fast Shutdown, is when you press your power button, it will automatically start shutting down your system.

That definately isn't your problem.

You applied the Win98 patch, do you have a network card installed?

I have seen some network cards not "close" their connection to a home network and thus causing a hang at shutdown.

I hope that gives you some help.

No fast shutdown doesn't have to do with the button...
It's slightly more technical and relates to the activities and methods windows uses to close/end processes/ports/connections, etc...
There was a detailed explanation somewhere, might have been in the MS knowledge database...

goophie:

Does your motherboard BIOS have an option for enable/disable "assign IRQ to VGA"
I've seen some systems that won't shut down with that disabled.

actually yeah, i do have an "assign irq to vga" i actually turned that on to see if it would help but it didn't. I'll try turning it off though :p

this is one crazy problem. Does anyone know where i can find older versions of the sis530 AGP drivers? i think this could be the problem, i downloaded the newest version from their website and installed them a while back, and then these problems started.

Thanks
