What to do for personal server virus protection?

We store our music and pictures on our home server which has Windows 2000 Server (school gave me a copy for free).

Is there a cheap way to protect my server from viruses? I'm not sure that I'm ready to shell out $300+ that I see for server edition antivirus software (my Dell 400SC didn't cost that much)

You could dl the free SME Server, it's Linux based and super easy to install and use.

That would require that I give up my free copy of W2K server. I'm sure many folks here can point out the advantages of Linux over W2K, but W2K is very easy to use.

I don't need free AV, just something reasonably priced for a home user that can run on W2K server.

Lots of regular joe class system utilities will not install/run on a server OS. Usually because that is where the big profit is for the vendors.

I bought Acronis True Image before they implemented their server licensing. When I attempted to update the update would not run because it was on a server. Fortunately, since I was due for an upgrade, they upgraded my licence to the server licence (that was a hot deal).

I do, Suse Linux 9.1.

(yes I'm being smart). . .

Really, I'd sell your server license on FS/FT and simply get a boxed set of the latest SUSE and use it. I've got a pentium 2 266 mhz old dell with 200 gigs of storage running suse - and I love it.

You'll be quite suprised how easy SME is to setup.

Episodic, AVG Free will not install on Server.

I just read through the overview documentation. SME Server does look nice. Can someone point me to a good site that critisizes its limitations? I like to see more than one side to a story.
I also take it that I would need to find Red Hat/SuSE Linux drivers for everything that I need drivers for (raid card, video card, slim server)

However, for now I am still pretty happy with my W2K Server. Plus, I'd have to convince the wife that it's a good thing to bring down access to the server for however long it would take for me to make things work the way they did before.
