UPDATE
-So the person's television played til about 2AM last night. I contacted the office, and they called his apartment. Someone answered the phone, claiming not to be him. They called his work number, and the person said it was not him. They knocked on his door, and no one answered. The office is getting suspicious, since he lives by himself, yet "someone else" answers the phone when they call him. The office is going to update me tomorrow.

I live in an apartment complex, and we have this downstairs neighbor who has lived down there for over a year. He is actually a pretty nice guy. We have had no problems with him until recently. Starting about 2 weeks ago, he decided to play his television really loud. Usually, it does not bother me. Basically, as long as I am not studying or sleeping, it is not a problem.

So last week, I'm trying to watch television, and I cannot even hear my own television (since I do not make it loud, as a courtesty to those living above me or below me). Basically, I found what channel he was watching, and was able to use the sound from his television to watch the show. I felt that was too loud.

I went downstairs, and could hear his television as I was walking down the stairs. The noise actually sounded like 2 people talking in the hallway. I knocked on his door, but he did not answer. That is probably because he cannot hear the knocking over his loud television. At about 11PM, I called the courtesy officer at my complex, and he went down there, but the guy never opened his door, and the television noise went til about 4AM. I reported the incident to management, and they sent him a letter yesterday.

Well, now today we are back to the same problem. I cannot read in my apartment becuase of his loud television. The courtesy officer (off duty police officer) just went down there, and the guy would not open his door again, so it seems we are back to square one. I am going to talk to management again tomorrow, but the manager is quite anal, and will probably think I am being a pest. Any advice on what I should do? This problem seems to occur 3-4 times a week now, and must stop. Ideas/suggestions?

go buy a velodyne 15" subwoofer, hook it up, and turn it up full blast.

Just keep after your apartment manager to take care of it. That's why you pay them ridiculous sums of money each month.

are you the only one complaining? if it's that loud then wouldn't other ppl be complaining too? if so, management shouldn't think you are being a pest about it..

Well, the way our complex is set up, there are basically 3 floors. I'm on the 2nd, he is on the 1st. We do not share any interior walls with other apartments. Basically, the only part of his apartment that "touches anyone elses'" is his ceiling is my floor. My roommate and I are the only ones to complain since there are no other apartments that share walls with his.

I actually thought that initially, but the volume does go down after some time. He comes home from work around 6, and that is when the noise starts.

If the manager gives you any guff tell him to talk to his own courtesy officer about how loud it is.

Interesting. I am your neighbor (well, not in reality, but I also get home about 6:00PM and like loud music). But that's where the similarities end.

My music is NEVER loud past 9:30 PM. Ever. In fact, it's usually completely OFF by 10:00PM. Yet my neighbors, in all three apartment complexes I've lived in over the past four years, continue to be waa-waa-weenies and rat me out.

Anyone that blasts music past 11:00PM is downright inconsiderate. Anyone blastic music all thru the night until 4:00AM needs an ass kicking.

My post here will QUICKLY be followed by 1,938 posts saying "you live in an apartment, therefore you should NEVER blast your music, you inconsiderate fvck!"

To them, I raise The Middle Finger of Fvck You-It-ness and say "You live in an apartment, you have neighbors; DEAL."

We all have to get along. I play music until 9:30. You beat your wife until 10:00...nobody calls the police. That's the way apartment living is supposed to work, dammit.

I live in a dorm and never had problems with noise.... and some people don't like listening to someone elses music whether it's 12 noon or 12 midnight.
