What to do about light rust on vehicle frame

What type of Jeep? I'm currently doing a frame-off restoration on my 1981 CJ-7.

Currently the body tub has been sandblasted and is at the bodyman's place, and I have nothing but a bare frame on the floor.

There is a product I've used on aviation parts called extend. It is a spray on encasulator, and it is ready for paint after that. Remove the dirt and loose stuff and spray it on, it goes on like a clear laquer.

I por-15ed the frame on my 67 galaxie and it still looked great 5 years later when I sold it. It was a daily driver for most of those year too. But like other have said that rust isn't a big deal.

That rust ain't going away. I've got a '98 Dakota. The driveway is a nice orange color. Disregarding the frame, everything else has a layer of some coating material. Well, that's just flaking off in brittle pieces. So anything to help stop the rust isn't bonding this layer back to the part. Just the other day I broke off a handful of flakes from just one piece before spraying rustoleum onto what's left. I've had a piece of the steering column rust away. The stock exhaust rusted away, both the muffler and up by the engine. And all the stock shocks rusted away.

How is the frame? Did you go with a YJ frame and tub and a CJ clip? It really helps since those are galvanized.

Tub had some rust, but not too bad.
Frame is fine. Getting it sand blasted this week, then new body mounts and rear crossmember, then POR'd. Should have my springs here by then, and hopefully both the Dana 44 axles I found. Engine's at the machine shop (SBC 400). Tranny (NV4500) is here. Transfer case, Dana 300 w/LoMax 4:1 gears on the way.

Maybe I'll start a build up thread later this week and keep updating it with pics for those interested. I'm sure some of the gear heads here would like it.

44's will handle V-8 power and up to 36" tires no problem, unless they are going to be totally, rock-crawlingly thrashed.

I shouldn't have a problem. I'm using Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ 33x15.50's.

I've seen guys break 44 axles on stock tires before. 4Lo can be dangerous with a lead foot and an obstacle.

You gots to know how to drive. You can easily snap a 14-bolt's axles if you get crazy with the stupid pedal
