What to D/L?

first of all i am stuck on dialup - my other "choice" being satelite . . . to make a long story short, i wanted TX2 - the awesome 655MB expansion pak for Thief 2 - T2X: Shadows of the Metal Age and had to basically pay $6.95 for a months subscription to FilePlanet to really get it. . . . BTW it was worth it . . . :thumbsup:

But being frugal [cheap] i'd like to maximize my $6.95 sub at FP . . . . any good game demos or mods you'd recommend?

i can and will d/l over night and already got SC:CT demos as well as patches for my future purchases like Bloodlines and KoTOR II when they become bargain bin.

i could use a few good - fps preferred - demo sugestions. Also, any good/great MODS . . .
i am blown-away at the hiQuality of the unnofficial Thief 2's 13-level full exp. :Q

If you don't have Q3Arena on your PC you aren't a real FPS gamer! 😀

Get it and update it with the patches.

i forgot to mention . . . single player only . . . although i can get 5.7KB/s for a steady D/L my ping times are 'impossible' for multi . . . and i don't care much for Unreal Tournament style play with 'bots - clearly they were designed for human opponents.
 
Painkiller demo was fun (single-player)

If you have
- Neverwinter Nights you could download a few dozen mods for it
- Jagged Alliance 2 the Urban Chaos mod is very good
- Heroes of Might & Magic III there are supposed to be some great mods for it

People say Freedom Force vs. Third Reich is pretty good, haven't tried it myself

What about Red Orchestra v3.3 Mod? i understand it is also SP. Do i need UT2K4 installed?

what about Area-51-Singleplayer-Demo?

Area 51 is ok... I'd give it a 5 out of 10.

BF2 is great, even the demo is worth it.

F.E.A.R. is pretty darn good, but it takes a pretty decent machine to run it.

Doesn't F.E.A.R. require a 'key' to play? i can get the d/l from FP but it says the Beta is 'closed'. . . . closed? to running it at all or just closed to joining a multi session?

F.E.A.R. said it was closed when I d/l it. IRC you did need a key, it was emailed to you thru a signup.

 
So FEAR probably won't work for me. 🙁

No morrowind demo. You can buy the full game and both expansion packs for about $25 from walmart. Worth it big time.

Totally agree there. I have the Painkiller game and the Battle out of hell expansion pack. Good stuff, cheap, tough too😉
 
IMO, the PK demos don't do the full game or its expansion pak BoOH justice.

The game actually has more depth than your average shooter with 'secret' ways to do weapons combos, oddball jumping using the PK and the phusics engine, secret spots, unlockable levels and alternate endings. Good gfx and awesome sky-boxes too!

i guess no one read my first post where i listed my current games.

Sure, there are working bots, but the AI is lacking completely. So, unless you want to slaughter a bunch of bots while playing on some beautiful maps and have no fun at all, go for it. Multiplayer is where it's at for this game. Yes, you need it installed.
 
Good call on THief 2.... that's an AWESOME game!! You should also check out the original, and the newest one - Thief: Deadly Shadows. 🙂

Thief Deadly Shadows is one of my favourite games. Although it is a deviatiation from the first two, it is a beautiful game. OTOH, althought TX2 is a "fan-based-Exp pak" - it is just as professional and well written as anything by Eidos. It even has the zombies although they are easier to deal with than Thief cause you have the weapons for the job. And TX2 has HUGE maps with no "loading" - unlike Deadly Shadows tiny maps.

. . . and thanks for the comment on Red Orchestra v3.3 Mod, yankeesfan. . . i guess it is much like the AI lacking in UT2K4 SP . . . someday DSL may come to our road . . . cable - never. 🙁

That would be cool if they would re-release the original 2 games... but updated with modern graphics. 🙂
