the x2 4800 is still faster, a 4400 can beat the 840 processor in almost everything

Thats true, but what about te Intel when it is overclocked to 3.6? I think it can stand close to the X2 4800

I will buy from one of these companies:

1- Dell: Prices and very good deals, but they don't have AMD.

2- Alienware: Top of the line components, but pricey and also the case has only 2 fans!!! even with AlienIce. There is no intake fans to cool my 3-4 hard drives.

3- OverdrivePC: Excellent customer reviews and they produce tweaked systems that have unmatched performacnce but this won't come cheap as they are as expensive as Alienware.

4- Monarch computer: Best prices, some are lucky to have their system run well but their forums if full of complaints about ststems that failing out of the box ..etc. If they had no such complaints, I would go with themn with no hesitation.

That sounds reasonable. I would stay away from Monarch though exactly for the reasons you list. I too have read many, many complaints about Monarch custom PC's.

The Dell I customized has EVRYTHING:

Module Description Show Details
Dell XPS 600 Pentium® Extreme Edition Dual Core w/ HT Tech (3.20GHz, 800FSB)

TOTAL:$4,604.16

This price wihout tax (tax will be around 390 or something)

For X2 4800 with all the previous components:

An Alienware would cost 5000$ without the monitor means that the system will be 6000$

Overdrive PC will cost the same as well, Velocity micro will cost even more. Only Monarch computer will cost 5000 total.

10k SataIIs?!?! Is that false advertising, or is there actually a 10K sataII drive?!?!

My system plays BF2 on my Dell 2405fpw with all the settings totally maxed out at 1920x1200, AA on, high setting all over - including "max quality" in the nvidia settings tab, and I have "only" one 7800gtx. It plays BF2 great and that is a very demanding game as you probably know- especially on large servers online. Next year, if I can't play a game smoothly with my card at 1920x1200, then I'll buy the latest card and it will be fine. Getting SLI is a waste of money and you'll regret being stuck with two outdated cards when it comes time to upgrade.

Alienware is horrible, please don't buy one. There are other options besides Alienware. I've had bad experiences with them, my co-workers and friends have had bad experiences with them. Out of probably 6 people I know personally, only one of us has a positive thing to say about Alienware. 5 of the 6 had serious problems and then to add insult to injury, their service was just horrible. horrible.

Yes, I don't believe that WD makes SATAII Raptors... Not that it makes a difference, there's absolutely NO performance increase between SATAII and SATAI. I'd go with the Dell system, since that 4800+ rig is a complete ripoff...

Finally found the answer to my question, it seems that overclocking P 840 EE to 3.4 will make it match the X2 4800 at stock, and having it at 3.6 Mhz (Dell say that the processor is USER overclockable in BIOS to 3.4 and 3.6). will make it slightly faster then the X2 4800. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Here is the overclocking results and PC mark 2004 benchmarks which reveal that the P 840 at 3.6 will have scores more than X2 4800:

What are your comments guys? If this will be the case then I can save 2000$ and buy from DELL.

Agreed, I think I am not buying the Alienware, their offers suck and they are ripp off just like Velocity Micro, its now either OverdrivePC, Dell XPS 600 or Monarch and the latter worris me because of the bad reports.

As for Sli, I am living outside the states so adding new cared or adding another in SLI would take me over 2-3 months to get the cards, so I want to buy the sytstem as a whole and stay with it for three years and then buy another one after that:)

I just looked it up, the Dell XPS with the Intel EE w/HT 3.2Ghz with 4GB RAM, 500GB Raid 0 HD and 20 inch flatscreen is 3,500. I'd say get that.

He wanted dual core...

That is dual core, with HT tech. So it's actually quad.

I see I see

Heard HT in dual core P4s actually bring down performance so it's said to better turn it off.

There is currently a bug with the Dual Core EE, where windows will use a physical cpu and logical cpu, and just let the second core sit idle. Look around at the temps the few people using a pentium-D are getting with even the 2.8ghz version, and you'll realize you are gonna have to spend an enormous amount on cooling to overclock that thing. There is a reason why Intel has to sell it's dual cores at the lower end of it's clock speeds, even the faster single cores have major heat issues. The Dell doesn't seem to have a decent price I suppose, but personaly I would go with the X2 even if I had to spend more. I am extremely happy with my 4200+ which is chugging along at 2.618ghz, and still only gets to 51c with both cores under full load, on the stock AMD heatsink, not even using AS5.

I am considering dell because of the current offer, plus my previous experience with Brand name PCs was good, I have Gateway and I never had BSOD, no lockups, a completely compatible system that is build to work together without any incompatibility issues that often occur in custom PCs.

At monarch, my system x4800 with SAME configuration as the dell XPS 600 would cost 5300 $ which is ok, but is monarch reliable in building solid custom pcs?I am a member in their forum and i see rediculous mistakes in their built pcs. thse things worried me alot.

Overdrivepc is a good small company to buy from but HELL prices are INSANE. A 3 year warrnty cost 300$ and the sytstem cost $5500 WITHOUT monitor. This will make it 6700$ total.

Dell will cost 5240$ total with everything, it lacks only the X-FI which I can buy separately and install it myself.
