EXACTLY! EXACTLY! I have the same aspirations as you. I am a hardcore baseball fan and I don't like playing homerun slugfests or even semi-realistic baseball games. The game of baseball is such a complicated sport (mechanically) that it's hard for a video game to emulate the game's physics and mechanics properly. So far from everyone that I've talked to, World Series Baseball is the most realistic baseball game to date. I like High Heat 2003 for the PS2 but HH2k3 doesn't have a franchise mode (which IMO makes the game 10x fun to manage "behind the scenes" as well as in-game).
NFL2k2 - realistic football game there as well.
NBA2k2 - Sega Sports does it again with a damn realistic basketball game.
Transworld Surf looks to be quite a promising surfing game. I believe it's the first mainstream surfing game ever...I heard it's pretty good.
1. Sony is not what I'd consider poor.
2. How much of the $40 Billion is Microsoft willing to spend on the XBox? Not all of it, I'd imagine. Windows/Office is their bread and butter, and will be for at least many years to come.
I still think the PS2 is the best of the three, followed by the Gamecube.
XBox has a lot of potential, they're just nowhere near using it. I'm not going to buy a system for what it might do.

I'm sooo glad to know that your gaming rig has a Visioneer 4400USB Scanner and HP 932C Printer. That gets more performance out of your games.
And you think the PS2 is Sony's b&b? sorry but my money would be in either TV's or consumer radios if I were to take a guess without sales figures. The sheer fact that MS has way more green means that they are willing to pour more into the Xbox than Sony is the PS2, and if history repeats itself MS will have no problem doing this, just look at what happened to netscape and all the other companies which competed with Windows Media Player, heck even Apple...MS has no problems dumping the cash into a product so that it will prevail....but then again as you said time will tell, and from what has been seen at E3, things are looking pretty good for Xbox owners.
Actually Sony depends on the PS and PS2, they account for 65% of their money, the PS and PS2 make and brakes them, last year they had to issue a revised profit projection that cut their profits by 85%, do to the fact the PS2 didnt do as much as they were hoping due to manufacturing problems. But it wasnt always like that, their bread and butter before was consumer electronics(TVs etc).
MS bread and butter may be OS's and office suites, but they know they have to branch out. MS is firmly behind the Xbox, as are all the major retailers. Slowly but surely so are the developers.

You already got a good PC and there are hardly any really good Xbox games that wont appear on either the PS2 or PC sooner or later. Basically very few at all. Xbox has so many developers right now because many of them are smaller companies who develop for the PC and see the cheap conversion costs for porting to or from the Xbox.
Not to mention all your PS2 games will probably work on your future PS3... 😀

Yep, I'm pretty set on X-Box. Already took advantage of KBToy's 50% off of X-Box accessories today and bought a regular controller ($20) and a DVD remote ($18). I like the regular controller believe it or not. It fits my hands nicely. The S-Controller (which I've held before) was also nice. Either controller would cut it for me and since KB didn't have the S-Controllers on hand, I bought the regular one for half off.
The remote was sorta a jip. Most places sell the remote for $30 but KB sells it for $35. So I ended up paying about 4 dollars extra before of KB's damned higher price. I'm only 16 so I have no clue how to pricematch and do all of that stuff ;p
My parents are about 65% positive that they'll buy me an X-box (considering my birthday is in about a month and that I get good grades and that I pretty much asked for nothing during the Christmas season 😛). I believe that percentage will get higher once they realize the X-Box can play DVDs too...they don't know that yet. 🙂 I think I'll have to shell for the games though...blah oh well. I don't mind paying for the games I guess...as I find that playing games that *I* buy are more enjoyable (because in my mind, I had to work hard to get that money) than having my parents buy me the games.
I was reading a few reviews around some lesser known magazines such as GameNation and apparently, they did a review of Spiderman (The Game) on all 3 platforms (individual reviews). They claimed: Playstation 2's game was slow, frame-rate wise. Gamecube's version was almost as good as the X-Box version but the controls but were uncomfortable. The X-Box's version had the best visuals/framerate and a great set of controls that fit the controller layout. Heehee it feels good to see the X-Box finally get some positive recognition instead of being shadowed by their opponents.
E3 just ended but so far, I really like the future outlook for the X-Box. According to MS, 200 games are suppose to be released by this Christmas season. That's going to be quite a feat to accomplish (IMO) but if they even get anywhere near that figure, the X-Box is going to start hitting its stride. Remember that about 6 - 12 months after PS2's release, its game library started to shine. I believe X-Box will follow the same path. 😀

That is true with a lot of games another prime example is Max payne. The xbox has a quicker load time, little better graphics and a better frame rate then ps2. I too think the xbox original controller is great, i suppose those with smaller hands may not be able to use them but i certainly have no problem with it.

Thats correct. Games designed for the PS2 first that are also on the Xbox, the Xbox plays them better. Games designed for the Xbox first, are ALOT better on the Xbox than on the PS2 or GC. Some of the gaming press bashed some of the multiplatform games on the PS2 and GC, saying the graphics and preformance were much better on the Xbox. And its not true that all the games on the Xbox will eventually be on other platforms, Xbox has 20 or so AAA exclusives, well atleast thats how many they showed at E3 2002, Im sure there are some more they are waiting for TGS, in four months. I love hose LucasArts forced the hand of Sony Online...
