What to Buy Now?

A friend just called up and said he would buy my BX board & PIII700E (cA2).

I am trying to figure out what to buy if I move to an AMD system.

I only have a 250W power supply (ATX 2.01 that came with my Aopen KF45A case). I have Mushkin 2; IBM DPTA-3702050 (ATA66); SB Live!Value!

If I get $275 - $300 (Canadian) for my current CPU & mobo (about right?), what's the most AMD performance I can get if I throw in an extra $300 (i.e. around $600 Canadian altogether = US $385)? Or this too cheap? Do I get OEM or retail? Stock HSF or specialty after-market? Which mobo? etc.

Finally, how much faster CPU will I need to actually feel the difference from my current PIII700 @ 770?

Thanks for all suggestions.

Here's a nice bump for you. ^

I also am thinking about the big switch from Intel to AMD and would like to see a recommendation.

if you search the forums there are many many many many many threads that already ask the same question and have gotten lots of good feedback :)
