I don't game a lot, but I would think most gaming activity takes place in the middle of the screen. Splitting this onto two monitors would be a problem. Am I missing something here? I'd go with the widest single monitor you can afford.

Well, that's even more reason to maximize the screen. I'm sounding like a broke record in a lot of these monitor threads. I just got a 24inch widescreen and It's the best value I've ever gotten in buying Computer stuff (going back to my first 486-33). The wide screen huge display is amazing for everyday use and makes games even better. I have dual 19inch standard LCDs at work and the wide screen is just hands down better for almost anything other than editing from one a fullsized spreadsheet to a full size word doc (or any other full screen to full screen thing you might need to do). If you are looking at multiple web pages, the scaling and resizing is still better on a wide screen (at least the 1920 by 1200 I get).

May I recommend either the Viewsonic or Sceptre 22" LCDs sold by Costco, if they are available. $330/$350.

They may have still a rebate available and then it would be a better deal. The stores' may have them in stock. Our store has the Viewsonic.

w00t, while the NEC is the BEST 20" gaming lcd you can buy, it is $150 over his budget. If it was $50 over, i'd tell OP to suck it up and get the NEC, but alas...:( The Dell 2007fpw is a very good lcd. 20" S-IPS panel w/16 ms response, but don't be fooled. It will not ghost AT ALL! Real time response is <8ms. Overall, an excellent LCD for any task, text, photos, games, you name it. It's ~$350.

I own several LCDs (19" widescreen, 19" 5:4 screen, 20" widescreen, 20" 4:3 screen, and 22" widescreen). I think you are better off with just one 22" widescreen. I have the ACER 22", which was $299 at Microcenter a while back. This one is also good:

These are TN screens, so do not have the greatest vertical viewing angle, but I've never found this to matter.

I personally don't get the dual screen thing. I'm a professional programmer (MCP) and engineer, and work most efficently with one larger screen. To each his own, I guess.

Agreed, I love my 2005FPW which is based on the same panel as the 2007WFP. The problem with today everyone thinks less ms times means the LCD is faster and yet better which is incorrect.
